SUMMARY
CHARACTERISTIC OF OPEN HEART SURGERY PATIENTS IN POST
OPERATION PERIOD IN CARDIOVASCULAR DEPARTMENT
Objective: Describe characteristic of open heart surgery patients in post operation period in
cardiovascular department.
Method: Retrospective descriptive study.
Result: There are 92 enrolled patients. The average day in Cardiovascular department is
13,5 ± 2,41 days. Almost cases are ventricular septal defect 70,65%, Fallot Tetralogy 15,22%,
atrial septal defect 10,87%. Pre operation pulmonary hypertension 49,34%.Most common
complication in post operation period is infection 57, 6%, including pneumonia with highest rate
29,34%, fever 10,86%, sepsis 4,34%, sequelae brain injury 3,26%. There are one case died
immediately when withdraw electrode. 63,05% cases had use antibiotic. In pre surgery, 12%
children had fever, then increasing to 26,09% in post operation period. Cyanosis congenital heart
disease had 53,33% lower-80%-SpO2, this SpO2 indicator improve higher 95% in more than
80% cases. All incisions are clean and cared by nurse.
Conclusion: During post operation period, there is always risk to occur severe
complications. We need to check vital signs, evaluate injury condition, and find out
complications. We also establish infectious control to reduce nosocomial infection. There should
have advanced training about heart disease and standard open heart operation protocol.
Keywords: take care, post operation, open heart surgery.
