1. Reducing global environmental damage should be handled by governments rather than
individuals. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Sample Answer 1:
Global environmental damage is the most pressing problem in the world nowadays. However, when it
comes to tackle the problem, people are divided in their opinions. In many circles, it is argued that
governments’ role is crucial in reducing the environmental damage, while others put emphasis on
individuals’ attempt. While I accept the notion that individuals can reduce environmental damage, I
believe the governments can play a paramount role in improving environmental damage.
Environmental damage can be slowed and stopped with practical actions that yield a healthier, cleaner
atmosphere. Actually, it is up to each of us, as individual, to take steps to slow down and eventually stop
the damages through everyday awareness of our energy use, and pay attention to the ways we can save
electricity and minimize fossil fuel usage. For example, using electricity to lighting our home, driving a
car, heating our room and throwing away trash all lead to greenhouse gas emission that causes
environmental damage severely. We can reduce emissions through simple actions like switching to
energy-efficient lighting, improving the efficiency of home appliances, reducing energy required for
heating, improving vehicle fuel-efficiency, and so on.
But, the governments could certainly make more effort to reduce environmental damage. They could pass

laws to limit the emission from factories and industries and gradually they can force to the companies to
use renewable energy from solar, water, or wind power. In addition to this, the government can set forth a
national blueprint for a clean energy economy. Actually, they can outline a national climate action plan

that puts emphasize on several key ways to reduce environmental damages. Apart from that, since
environmental damage is a global issue, they can work for an effective international climate treaty
negotiation so that international efforts can be ensured in reducing environmental damages worldwide.
To reiterate, as individuals we can contribute by taking steps to reduce our personal carbon emissions. But
fully address the threat of global environmental damage, we must need actions from the government to
support and implement a comprehensive set of climate solutions.
Sample Answer 2:
The rate at which the Earth is being damaged through human activity is alarming. As awareness of this
disturbing situation grows, actions are increasingly being taken to meet the challenge. Although world
governments play key roles in the question of environmental health, it is strongly disagreed that their
environmental efforts negate those of individuals. I will use both a personal experience I have had as well
as non-government inspired initiatives undertaken in my country to illustrate this position.
Firstly, the sizeable contribution an individual can make in the world’s attempt to cleanse itself should not
be underestimated. I feel the changes I have made to my own lifestyle act as a good example here. Four
years ago, I made a conscious effort to start taking the subway to work instead of driving after realizing I
had been burning an entire tank of gas every week. The effect of this small change over the course of four
years became magnified when I realized I had refrained from burning more than two hundred full car
tanks of gas! Thus, although there are many things that governments can do to help fight environmental
damage, the individual still plays a huge role.
In addition to this, many non-government related entities have also been making inroads in the battle for a
cleaner world. For example, at many of the universities in Canada, there are student groups that work to
raise awareness of the lifestyle changes people can make to better help the environment. These
independent groups help put a face to a message and really push people to alter themselves for the benefit
of the natural world. As this makes clear, projects aimed at preserving the Earth do not have to be
government-run to make a difference.
As my experiences show, the world’s governments should not solely handle the issue of global
environmental damage. It is hoped that the future sees more people contribute to this cause in any way
they can.
2. Explain some of the ways in which human are damaging the environment. What can governments
do to address these problems? What can individual people do?

Sample Answer 1:
It is undeniable that human's deeds are harming the environment. This essay will discuss how the damage
is caused, as well as the actions the Government and individuals can take to protect our world.
There are some ways in which people contaminate the environment. People worsen air pollution by
making cars as their primary mode of transportation. After all, the more cars are driven, the more carbon
dioxide is produced. Factories are also the main perpetrators of pollution by producing so much waste. In
addition, there are individuals who dump rubbish in inappropriate places, such as river. Unfortunately,
their reckless actions make river a toxic place to live for fish and other river inhabitants, eventually kill
them.
The Government can solve environmental problems with a number of actions. One of them is to
implement a pollution threshold for factories. If a company produces more pollution than the permitted
threshold, it will be fined. Therefore, industrial companies would take necessary measures to reduce their
waste. Another way is to improve public transportations. Reliable, clean, and safe mass transports will
encourage people to use them, instead of using private cars.
Apart from the Government, individuals too can partake in protecting the environment. Firstly, individuals
can reduce household waste. For instance, people can use cloth bag instead of plastic bag when shopping.
After all, plastic can not be decomposed and its build up will harm the Earth. Secondly, people should use
more public transportation and if possible, walk more. That way, pollution that comes from vehicles can
be minimised.
In conclusion, people damage the environment with the high usage of private cars and industrial waste,
and also by throwing rubbish irresponsibly. Government can solve these problems by implementing waste
limit and enhancing public transport system. Individuals can also help by lessening their household waste
and travelling by mass transports and walking.
3. To solve the ever-increasing environmental hazards throughout the world, the best way is to
increase the price of fuel. What is your opinion on the above assumption?
Model Answer 1: (Agreement)
Environmental or natural hazards are the result of physical processes that affect humans and environment

every day and harmful for both in short and long run. As the use of fuel increases to keep up with modern
demands and increased population, the world is becoming more vulnerable to environmental hazards and
disasters. Floods, earthquakes, severe thunderstorms, toxic or oil spills immediately come to mind when
comprehending this issue, implying that all these things are inherently hazardous.
One of the most effective solutions to these environmental hazards is to raise the price of fuel. The use of

VnDoc - Tải tài liệu, văn bản pháp luật, biểu mẫu miễn phí
petroleum and gasoline can release toxic chemicals into our atmosphere. These chemicals escape into the
air during refilling, from the gasoline tank and carburetor during normal operation, and from engine
exhaust. Transportation sources account for about 30-50% of all harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
The industrialization is another reason for the omission of harmful chemicals too.
“Smog” is another environmental hazard. It causes human respiratory stress, and damages many plants,
significantly reducing farm crop yields and the “health” of trees and other vegetation. Burning gasoline
emits significant quantities of a wide range of harmful gases into the atmosphere. For example, carbon
monoxide is a poisonous gas produced by incomplete combustion. Carbon dioxide, a normal product of
burning fuel, is non-toxic, but contributes to the greenhouse effect, which is also known as global
warming and it is probably the most dangerous threat for the human existence.
Raising the price of fuel would mean that people would use less petroleum and gasoline. They would find
other alternative means of transport to save money, which would mean using less high-priced fuel for
everyday purposes. For example, cycling is a healthy activity and it saves the earth too. Also, for a long
journey, people could try to find friends together for car-pooling. Car-pooling saves a lot of fuel and would
save a lot of money too. But other things should be considered to reduce the use of these dangerous fuels.
Government should implement strict rules of using car, for instance no less than 4 persons should be
allowed to drive a single car. The price should be increased in a thoughtful way because if the price is so
high it will hamper the average people's life leading. There are so many people yet use public
transportation for movement and the increased price will make their life miserable. The prices of many
necessary daily ingredients also increase with the price of fuel.
Many environmental hazards like “smog” and global warming are increasing around the world due to the
excessive use of petroleum and gasoline in our daily lives. Raising the price of fuel could make all the

difference to the environment. It would force people to use petrol in a more responsible way and use it less,
and therefore be the most effective solution to the problem of ever-increasing environmental hazards
though it might have some side effects but those can be controlled by the proper initiatives by the
Government.
4. Global warming is one of the most serious issues that the world is facing today. What are the
causes of global warming and what measures can governments and individuals take to tackle the
issue. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own experience or
knowledge.
Sample Answer 1:
For the past few decades, we have observed a major shift in climatic conditions of planet Earth. Drift in
environmental system is largely due to global warming which has become an acute problem. This essay

VnDoc - Tải tài liệu, văn bản pháp luật, biểu mẫu miễn phí
will analyze the root causes of global warming and will suggest remedies to lower the risk associated with
this alarming problem.
There are many causes behind global warming, but it is mostly due to greenhouse effect. Greenhouse
effect is a phenomenon where gases such as carbon-dioxide trap heat from the sun which causes the global
temperature to rise above optimal level. Activities of human beings contribute equally in increase of
global warming. Factories and vehicles results in emission of carbon gases and fumes which are depleting
the ozone layer surrounding the earth. Utilization of fossil fuels and other hazardous chemicals are other
reasons of global warming. Moreover, countries are becoming more industrialized and are dumping waste
in the atmosphere without realizing its harmful effects and severity of the issue. Rising temperatures due
to global warming would result in melting of polar ice-caps which will trigger severe floods, droughts and
other extreme weather conditions.
This critical issue which could potentially eliminate the human race should be death on government and
individual level. Governments should enforce strict policies and regulations to control the emission of
carbon gases from industries. More focus should be made on using alternative petroleum products that are
environmental friendly. Industries that are certified green should be charged lower tax rate. Awareness
programs should be organized to educate masses. Apart from government, individual members of the

society should step forward and play their role. People should select green vehicles for their transportation
requirement; they should dump the waste properly, prefer to work in green certified industries and educate
others.
To conclude, global warming poses serious threat to mankind, wildlife and ecosystem of the planet.
Governments and civilians both share equal responsibility to overcome this issue and make planet earth
safer for mankind and other inhabitants.
5. Many people around the world are not concerned about the growing problem of environmental
damage. How can individuals help to stave off these problems? To what extent should economic
planning be influenced by the need of environmental conservation?
6. Damage of the environment is an inevitable consequence of worldwide improvements in the
standard of living. Discuss.
Model Answer 1:
Many hold on to this view that today mankind’s way of life is surrounded by a wide range of advanced
facilities and that exerts profound impacts on the nature. I am of those individuals who strongly concur
with this idea. In this essay, it is going to be assessed some effects resulting from modern lifestyle.
As the main issue which could stem from developing urban life, is that the communities increase the
utilization of natural resources ranging from oil and gas to forests and water, to improve social facilities in

VnDoc - Tải tài liệu, văn bản pháp luật, biểu mẫu miễn phí
the mega cities. By the way of illustration, some governments devise the plans to ascend the urban areas
by deforestation projects. The second considerable plight is the fact that the technologic equipment cause
widespread environmental pollution all around the world, which undoubtedly, the health of human being
could be brought about those pollution. For example, in some big cities of the world the air pollution
caused by automotives’ exhaust has been turned to the serious crisis.
As the third stumbling block of the advanced way of life, it could be noticed that, people are used to spend
their time working with novel devices ranging from computers to smart phones and also video games. The
side effect of such habits could negatively affect the families` relationships. As a result, the member of
families, especially the youngsters would feel lonely even if they live together.
In conclusion, by all the reasons mentioned above, it undeniably seems that despite a variety of merits of

developed lifestyle, human being suffer the difficulties organized from the modern changes. However, the
adequate and integrated management could conduct the mankind to make the earth to a better place to live.
