Read the following passage and mark the the letter A, B, C or D on your answer sheet to

The nuclear family, consisting of a mother, father, and their children, may be more an American
ideal than an American reality. Of course, the so-called traditional American family was always
more varied than we had been led to believe, reflecting the very different racial, ethnic, class,
and religious customs among different American groups.
The most recent government statistics reveal that only about one- third of all current
American families fit the traditional mould and another third consist of married couples who
either have no children or have none still living at home. Of the final one -third, about 20
percent of the total number of American households are single people, usually women over

sixty-five years of age. A small percentage, about 3 percent of the total, consists of unmarried
people who choose to live together; and the rest, about 7 percent are single, usually divorced
parents, with at least one child. Today, these varied family types are typical, and therefore,
normal.
73. With what topic is the passage mainly concerned?

76. Who generally constitutes a one-person household?

Read the passage and choose the best answer.
Throughout the United States, the number of places where people are allowed to smoke
has gradually become smaller and smaller. First, it was banned on trains, buses and planes, then
in public places such as theatres and airports. Now you can’t smoke in any workplace.
Nonsmokers are definitely winning the battle. “Why should we breathe their smoke?”, they say.

If they are lucky, smokers can still find some bars and restaurants where they can light up a
cigarette, but it may soon be banned there, too. Anti-smoking groups even think that smoking
ought to be banned in people’s homes.
Under new plans you won’t be able to smoke where there are more than ten visitors in a week,
or where there are children. In 1996, nicotine was classed as drug, like cocaine or heroin. In the
country that gave tobacco to the world, smoking might one day be illegal
77. Now you can smoke ___________ but in the future you can’t.
A. on trains
B. in theatres
C. on planes
D. in bars
78.“ Why should we breathe their smoke?” The word “their” in this sentence means:
A. smokers’
B. other people’s
C. nonsmokers’
D. visitors’
79. Which of the following sentences is true according to the passage?
A. The number of smokers has become smaller
B. You can smoke in some bars and restaurants

When you apply for a job, one of the most important things is job interview. In order to make a

good impression during a job interview, you need to prepare yourself for the interview
carefully. Punctuation is very necessary. You should arrive in plenty of time so that you have a
little of time to relax and keep calm before the interview. You should be well-dressed. Do not
wear a skirt which is too short or jeans. You also need to plan what you are going to say. You
have to answer a lot of questions about your education and experience. You may be asked many
things about yourself and especially about the reason why you decide to apply for the job. You
can ask the interviewer about the salary you expect, the position you are applying and the duties
you have to do in the job. You also must try to find out as much as possible about the company
you want to work for.

Read the passage carefully and choose the correct answer.

Along with jogging and swimming, cycling is one of the best all-round forms of exercise. It can
help to increase your strength and energy, giving you more efficient muscles and stronger heart.
But increasing your strength is not the only advantage of cycling. Because you’re not carrying
the weight of your body on your feet, it’s a good form of exercise for people with painful feet
or backs. However, with all forms of exercise it’s important to start slowly and build up gently.
Doing too much too quickly can damage muscles that aren’t used to working. If you have any
doubts about taking up cycling for health reasons, talk to your doctor and ask his/her advice.
Ideally you should be cycling at least two or three times a week. For the exercise to be
doing you good, you should get a little out of breath. Don’t worry that if you begin to lose your
breath, it could be dangerous and there must be something wrong with your heart. This is

simply not true; shortness of breath shows that the exercise is having the right effect. However,
if you find you are in pain then you should stop and take a rest.

Read the passage carefully and choose the correct answer.
In the United States and Canada, it is very important to look at a person in the eyes when
you are having a conversation with him or her. If you look down or to the side when the
other person is talking, that person will think that you are not interested in what he or she is
saying. This of course, is not polite. If you look down or to the side when you are talking,
you may appear hiding something, that is, it might seem that you are not honest. However,
people who are speaking will sometimes look away for a few seconds when they are thinking
or trying to find the right word. But they always turn immediately back to look the listener in
the eyes. These social rules are the same for two women, two men, a woman and a man, or
