 CONDITIONAL SENTENCES TYPE 1:
FORM:
Main clause

USE : The first conditional sentence is used to express
a possible condition and a probable result in the
future.
Examples:
1. If I find her address, I will send her an invitation.
2. If Mary doesn’t feel better tomorrow, she will see

NOTES : Instead of the Future Simple tense in the
main clause, we can use:
1. CAN + V (bare infinitive) : to indicate permission
or ability.

1. Conditional sentence type 1: Instead of using
will/ can / may/ must + V (bare inf), we can use
the Simple present tense to indicate obvious real.
Eg: If you boil ice, it turns into water.
2. Inversion in conditional sentences type 2 and 3
E.g: If I were rich, I’d help the poor (= Were I rich,
I’d help the poor.)
If I had known her, I’d have made friend with
her.
(= Had I known her, I’d have made friend with
her.)
3. Using of conditional sentences type 2 and 3
E.g: He smokes too much, that’s why his cough
gets serious  If he didn’t smoke too much, his

cough wouldn’t get serious. (present situation 
conditional sentence type 2)
Tam was fined because he drove a motorbike
without a license.  If Tam hadn’t driven a
motorbike without a license, he wouldn’t have

The is used to indicate something that we
already know about or sthing that is common
knowledge.
