Greetings in all languages have the same purpose: to establish contact with
another person, to recognize his or her existence and to show friendliness. The
formulas for greeting are very specific and usually do not carry any literal meaning

A new study shows that women can reduce their chances of developing heart
disease by jogging for about three hours every week. The researchers at Harvard
University Medical in Boston have just reported the results of the study on the New
England Journal of Medicine. The study is the first to show the effectiveness of

examined the effects of jogging on the heart, but nearly all have been done on men.

The Asian Games takes place every four years. The spirit of the Asian Games
has been built up over a long period of time, spreading the message of unity, warmth,
and friendship through competitive sports. It helps to establish the relationship among
individual athletes, coaches, trainers, officials, volunteers and spectators who come
together from many different backgrounds and cultures.
Just 11 countries and regions with 489 athletes participated in the first Asian
Games in New Delhi in 1951, with only six sports. The 15 th Asian Games took place
from December 1st through December15th, 2006, in Doha, the capital of Qatar. More
than 10,000 athletes, who represented 45 countries and regions, took part in 39 sports
and 424 events of the games. Some new events such as chess and triathlon were also

included in the Games.
The world records came in through shooting and weightlifting with the Asian
bests in archery, athletics, track cycling, shooting, swimming and weightlifting.

Water, one of the two elements that are essential to life, covers 90 percent of
the earth’s surface. However, despite appearances, water that is drinkable is rare on
our planet. In the past, we have considered air and water to be free; but we cannot do

our drinking supplies. As global warming increase, ice floes melt into the oceans. The
deserts are increasing in size as they encroach upon and absorb arable land. Drought
and scarcity of water are an increasing feature of our everyday lives.
A good example of our problems is California. It has a reputation as a fertile
state. Nevertheless, for years it has been short of water, and, since the 1980s, has
been suffering from prolonged drought. Florida, too, has water problems and is trying
to stop salt water from seeping into its underground reserves. Floods occur regularly
but do not provide enough water to compensate for periods of drought. Both the
bloods and the drought demonstrate that we lack control and that we are unable to
manage this primary resource.

The rapid growth of China and India means that a lot more oil will have to
come from somewhere. World demand has grown faster in the past five years than in
the second half of the 1990s. Today we consume an average of 85 million barrels
daily and that figure will rise to 113 million barrels by 2030. A survey of the four
countries with the biggest reported reserves - Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq and Kuwait reveals major concerns. Iran became the first major oil producer to introduce oil
rationing. A report on Saudi Arabia’s oil reserves showed that the figure went from
79 barrels a day in 2002 to 84.5 million in 2004. There are still 909 billion tons of
coal worldwide, enough to last at least 155 years. But coal is a dirty energy resource.
The natural gas fields should last 20 years longer than the world’s oil reserves and is
expensive to extract and transport. Hydrogen fuel cells can provide us with an energy
source but there is not enough hydrogen to go round and the few clean ways of
producing it are expensive. Oil-dependent nations are turning to renewable energy
source. An increase in the using of oil all over the globe will increase the chance of a
disaster and the risk of dangerous substances getting into the atmosphere.
