I. Aim:
- By the end of this lesson, students will be able to ask and answer questions about one’s
favourite sports and games.
II. Language content:
*Vocabulary: blind man’s bluff, rollerskating, karate, basketball, shuttlecock sport, table
tennis, skate, rollerskate.
*Sentence patterns: What’s your favourite sport/ game?

V. Procedures:


1. Warm up:
Ss play a game.
2. Presentation:
P1. Look, listen and repeat.
- Ask Ss to open their Student’s Book on Page 55 and look at the picture. Tell them that the
girls in the picture are Tony and Quan.
- Set the scence “You are going to look at the dialogue in their Student’s Book, listen to the
recording and and repeat the dialogue between Tony and Quan”.
- Play the recording and asks Ss to listen to the tape twice.
- T asks Ss to listen and repeat in chorus two times.
- Play the recording again, pausing after each line for Ss to repeat, paying special
attention to the pronunciation of the words.
- Divide the class into 2 groups. Ask one group to repeat Tony’s part, the other repeats
Quan’s part.
- Have whole class repeat all the phrases a few times to reinforce their pronunciation.


- Check to make sure Ss can repeat and understand the dialogue.
3. Practice:
P2. Point, ask and answer.
- Have Ss look at the pictures a, b, c, d and e on page 55.
- Ask them to identify the boys and the girls in the pictures.
- Teach the new words and the new sentence patterns What’s your favourite sport/ game? ,
It’s________.
- Ask Ss to practise asking and answering the question.
- Ask Ss to work in pairs to practise asking and answering the question using the word under
each picture as a cue.
- Select some pairs of Ss to demonstrate the task in front of the class. Monitor the activity,
check Ss’pronounciation and offer help when necessary.

Get Ss to look at Picture 1, 2, 3 and 4 on Page 56. Help them to identify the keywords in
each picture.
3. While listening:
- Ask Ss to open the Student’s Book on Page 56. Tell them that they are going to listen to
different Ss talking about sports or games. They have to tick the correct pictures. Help them
to identify the sport/ game in each picture.
- Play the recording through for Ss to listen.
- Play the recording again for Ss to listen and tick the correct answers.
- Play the recording once more for Ss to check their answers.
- Ask Ss to exchange their answers with their partners before reporting them to the class.
- Read out the answers to the class. Provide explaination(s) when necessary.
4. Post listening:
P4. Talk.
- Ask Ss to role play ( one takes the role of A and the other of B).
- Demonstrate how to do the activity with a studdent.
- Let Ss perform the task in pairs. Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary.
- Select some pairs of Ss to demonstrate the task in front of the class. Praise e.g Well done, or
Very good.
5. Homework:
Ss write the answers in the notebooks.

Lesson 2
I. Aim:
By the end of this lesson, students will be to pronounce correctly the sound of the letters ese and
to say what nationality they are or what nationality others are; and to listen and to read for
specific information.
Develop listening and reading the specific information.
II. Language content:
Revision the structures: - I’m Vietnamese.
Phonics:
ese
III. Techniques:
+ Work in pairs and individually
+ Ask and answer.
+ Work in groups, discuss.
IV. Resource and teaching aids:
Teacher’s aids: book, workbook.
Student’s aids: book, notebook, workbook.


V. Procedures:
1. Warm up:
Ask Ss to show the pictures they have drawn in Lesson 1 and say where the Ss in the pictures are
from.
2. Presentation:
P1. Listen and repeat

- Ask Ss to open their Student’s Book on Page 14. Tell them that they are going to listen to
the chant and pronounce correctly the sounds of the letters ese as in Vietnamese, Japanese,
and Chinese.
- Stick the large – sized sheet of paper with the chant on the board and tell Ss to look at the
chant on it.
- Point to the word Vietnamese, and then point to the first part; e.g: Vietnam. Get Ss to say it.
Then point to the ending ese and say it aloud. Then say the whole word Vietnamese.
Underline ese and say it as a model. Get Ss to say it several times.
- Play the recording for Ss to repeat the chant, paying special attention to the pronunciation of
the sounds of the letters ese as in Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese. Repeat the step when
necessary.
3. Practice:
P2. Listen and number.
- Ask Ss to look at the pictures on Page 12. Tell them that they are going to listen to Mai
talking about her friends’ nationlity. They must listen and number the correct pictures. Ask
them to guess the correct ones.
- Play the recording through for Ss to listen.
- Play the recording again for Ss to do the task.
- Play the recording once more for Ss to check their answers.
- Ask Ss to exchange their answers with their partners before reporting them to the class.
- Annonce the answers to the class. Provide explanation(s) when necessary.
*Transcript: Hi, everyone. My name is Mai. I am Vietnamese. I am a pupil of Hanoi
International School. I have got many friends. Linda is English. Akio is Japanese. And Tony
is Australian.

* Answer: a-1; b-2; c-4; d-3.
** Follow up: Get Ss to work in pairs to look at the Ss on Page 13 and say what their
nationalities are.
4. Personalization:
Ss pronounce correctly the sound of the letters ese, state their nationality and that of someone
from some other countries and listen and to read for specific information.

- Let Ss read the text and do the task individually.
- Get Ss to work in pairs to discuss the answers.
- Ask some Ss to report their answers to the class.
- Announce the answers to the class. Provide explanation(s) when necessary.

Lesson 3
I. Aim:
- By the end of this lesson, Students will be able to ask for and give the full name of a
pupil/person.
- Develop speaking and listening skill.
II. Language content:
- Vocabulary: full name
- Structures: What’s his/her full name?
III. Techniques:
- Communicative method.
- Techniques: + Work in pairs
+ Work in groups, discuss.
+ Ask and answer.
IV. Resource and teaching aids:
- Teacher’s aids: Pictures, poster, word cards.
- Students’ aids: Book, notebook, workbook.
V. Procedures:
1.Warm up:
Ss sing the chant on Page 14.
2. Presentation:
P1. Listen and repeat.
- Ask Ss to open their Ss’ Book on Page 16. Tell them to identify the people in the picture
(Tom, his mother – Mrs Green, and Miss Hien). Tell them that they are going to listen to and
repeat the dialogue between Miss Hien and Mrs Green.
- Play the recording through again, pausing after each line for Ss to repeat.
- Divide the class into two groups. Ask one group to repeat Miss Hien’s part and the other
Mrs Green’s part. Repeat the step, but this time ask the groups to swap their roles.
- Play the recording again for the whole class to repeat the dialogue. Correct Ss’
pronunciation mistakes when necessary.

3. Practice:
P2. Look and say.
- Ask Ss to look at Pictures a,b,c and d on Page 16. Tell them that they are going to practise
asking and answering the question What’s his/her full name?
- Ask Ss to look at the full name of the pupil in each picture (Picture a: Le Nam; Picture b:
Linda Brown; Picture c: Tom Green and Picture d: Tony Black).
- Do the task with one Ss as a model (e.g: Teacher: What’s his full name?- Student: His full
name is Le Nam)
- Ask Ss to work in pairs, one asks the question and the other gives the answer, using the full
name of the people under each picture. Monitor the activity, offer help and correct
Ss’mistakes when necessary.
- Call on some pairs of Ss to perform the task in front of the class.


* Note: Linda Brown ( Linda is the first name and Brown is the family name)
4. Personalization:
Ss ask for and give the full name of a student; and to write a simple letter to a pen friend, giving
information about themselves.
5. Homework:
Read the model sentences again.

- Ask Ss to open their Ss’ Book on Page 17. Ask them if they have a pen friend in another
city or country. Tell them that they are going to write a letter to a pen friend ( a boy or a girl)
in another country.
3. While writing:
- Tell Ss to go through the letter outline and discuss how to complete it.
- Use one student in the class as an example and write his/ her letter on the board with
Ss’help.

Erase the letter on the board and get Ss to complete their own letters by filling in the blanks
spaces with their own information. Monitor the activity and if Ss need help with spelling of
words, write up the words they need on the board.
- Get one or two Ss to read their letters to the class.

- Tell Ss that “you are going to look at the dialogue in their Student’s Book, listen to the
recording and repeat the dialogue between Mai, Nga and Mr Robot”. Explain the meaning
of the words birthday and May.
- Play the recording through for Ss to listen to the dialogue.
- Play the recording again, pausing after each line for Ss to repeat. Repeat the step when
necessary.
- Divided the class into three groups. Ask the groups to repeat Mai’s, Nga’s and Mr Robot’s
part.
- Check to make sure Ss can repeat and understand the dialogue.

- Ask Ss to practise asking and answering the question When’s your birthday?, using the
puppets of Mai and Nga as an example.
- Ask Ss to work in pairs, one student asks the question and the other gives the answer, using
the word cues on the calender sheets. Repeat the step, but this time ask Ss to swap their

roles.
- Select some pairs of Ss to demonstrate the task in front of the class. Monitor the activity,
check Ss’pronunciation and offer help when necessary.
