In the current market economy, the competition trend is inevitable. Any firms
need to consider the market demand and what are their key products? Therefore,
enterprises need to consider and strive with manufacturing products to satisfy the
market demand and the products must have high quality at low price to gain profits.
So, enterprises should organize and manage production and business operations so
that they can bring high effectiveness and benefits.
Tu Liem-Power Construction Limited Company No 1 makes the mark on the
whole network operating system and national electricity transmission with projects,
line construction and large scale substation, high quality. During internship time in
PCC1, I’m in actual practice. To complete the internship report, I receive the
enthusiastic guidance of Ms. Pham Thi Xuan Ha (M.A.) and officers’ help in LaborOrganization Department.
However, the internship time is not much and limited knowledge, this report
makes some inevitable mistakes. I would like to receive comments to my report more

1.1.2. The foundation and development
Tu Liem-Power Construction Company Limited No 1 was founded under the
resolution 41/QĐ by PCC1 Chief Executive Officer on November 26th 2012.
Department of Ha Noi Planning and Investment granted business registration
certificate the first time No.0106052368 on December 4 th 2012 and first reissued on
May 26th 2014.
In April 1984, Line Construction Company and Substation No 1 under
Electricity Ministry established Power Construction Team No 3, the unit spent a long
time on developing the Parent company, Power Construction Joint Stock Company
No 1. In 1995, Power Construction Team No 3 developed into a total strength team
of the company, renamed General Power Construction Team No 3. In June 2010,
General Power Construction Team No 3 converted into branch No 1.3-Power
Construction Joint Stock Company No 1 by decision No.14 on June 15 th 2010.
Branch No 1.3 started operating on December 31 st 2012 and January 1st 2013 PCC1
started running until now.

Since the foundation, Tu Liem-Power Construction Limited Company No 1
accompanies with Parent company developing an important contribution to the
whole power construction system from 0.4 KV to 500KV. In addition to substation
and line construction, the company also constructed pillar telecommunication station.

the company are installing electrical constructions and substations.

The functions and responsibilities of several departments:
* Chairman:
The representative of the Parent company implements the rights and
obligations of the company, responsibilities under the law. The Parent company on
the implementation the rights and obligations are assigned under the principle of the
company law and legislation.
* Supervisor:
Checks the legality, honesty and prudence of the company’s president and
director implementing owner’s right, managing administration of the business of the
company.
* Board of Director:


Director: is a person who runs company’s daily works and is responsible for the

Chairman of the Company, Parent company implements the rights and duties assigned.
• Deputy Director: is a person who supports the Chairman operate one or some business
areas of company by the Director’s assignation and responsibilities to the Director and
Chairman of the company, and the law on duties is assigned to perform.

• Department of Finance-Accounting: Helping the Director implement State
management function about Finance and Accounting, accounting, economic
information, analysis economic activities, controlling finance in the company,
managing and using the fund assigned by the Parent company and other sources


mobilized by the company.
Department of Planning-Material: Supporting company’s Director in making and
approving the plans and operates efficiently business production plans of the

company.
• Department of Technical-Technology: Managing the technical work of the
company. It also guides and supervises construction units according to the technical
requirements, procedures and rules to ensure the quality of projects.
• Power Construction Teams and Service Department, Mechanical Processing:
The production teams are responsible for Director and Departments in the company
on managing employee’s work, taking care of life and arranging duties that company
assigns to complete production targets.
• It can be seen that the structure and management of the company are arranged tightly.
Each department takes over a different function which shows the concentration and
decentralization.
• The model of company’s organization and management is simple and suitable. It
ensures the convenience for operating, monitoring business activities of the boards.
• The company has supervisor to monitor activities of the Board Department and CEO.
Therefore, all activities of the company are strictly controlled.

The total number of officers and staffs are 165 people, including 87 male employees
that make up 54.3%, 78 female employees who account for 45.7%. The structure of



the male and female is relatively reasonable.
About working age, the number of employees whose age are between 30-50 is 79
people, account for the highest percentage (56.2%), the number of young workers
below 30 years old are 52 people that account for 30.5%, the number of employees
above 50 years old are 34 people equivalent to 13.3%. It can be seen that the
majority of company’s staff are young person, enthusiastic, education from college,
university or higher, and having much experience. Therefore, staff’s qualifications
are equally. In addition, most leaders have MBA degree and participate in political




class, management to improve the management level.
The staff is always arranged and set the work which is consistent with the ability and
strengths of each individual and is encouraged to enhance the qualifications so as to
boost work efficiency.

CHAPTER 2
THE CURRENT PRODUCTION AND BUSINESS ACTIVITIES OF
THE COMPANY
2.1. The main markets and products of the company:
Currently, PCC1 has the leading position in the following manufacturing and
trading fields:



Construction of the national power transmission and power plant.
Production of electrical materials and equipment to serve domestic’s demand and
export to foreign country.
Besides, PCC1 is performing very well in the following areas:




Investment: including investment in construction hydro electric power plants that supply

electricity for the national power system and business investment in real estate.
• Consulting electric system and providing service for core business activities.
The main products of the company are the basic characteristics, the most core
is presented in the company’s transaction name. With the majority of products relates
to constructions, the company’s markets also define clearly. The main market is
domestic’s market because the company is a branch of the Parent company. This
company is assigned the task by the Parent company so opening international market
is still limited. In recent years, the functions and duties of the company include
taking over the thousands of kilometers line 500KV, line 220KV, line 110KV, line
35KV, line 0,4KV, completing many large power transmission projects and Vietnam's
most difficult as line 500KV circuit 1.2; line 500KV Son La – Hoa Binh; Son La Hiep Hoa; line 220KV Thuong Tin - Kim Dong and voltage at 500KV into Thuong
Tin substation; line 500KV Pleiku - My Phuoc - Cau Bong (Pack 13); (Pack 14); line
500KV Duyen Hai - My Tho; Long Phu – O Mon ...; line 220KV Vinh Tan - Song
May; Ben Tre - Mo Cay; Cai Lay - Tra Nooc; Thuong Tin - Kim Dong ... line 110KV
Muong So - Lai Chau Province; line 110KV four circuits 220KV substation from
220KV substation Kim Dong - Khoai Chau; line and substation 110KV connecting
with Hydropower plants into national power network (The line from 42 to 220 KV
substation in Lao Cai). Hydroelectric development project fuses; construction line

rural low voltage network in Minh Duc communes (stage 1 + 2)-Tu Ky district, Hai
Duong province ... With the previous constructions, we can see that the scale of
company’s construction is very large and mostly State construction, so it makes sure
that the progress as well as the quality for the works is an important factor of the
company, and has completed and brought the positive results over the years.

Comments:
Through table 2.1, we can see that the business results in 2015 compare with
2014 are deficit. Specially, revenues in 2014 and 2015 are 81,550 million VND and
78,447 million VND respectively. It means that total revenues in 2015 fell to 3,103
million VND, equivalent to 96.2% compared to 2014. The reasons are due to the world

economic crisis in general and Vietnam in particular having a negative trend,
particularly the move of China yuan devaluation in August 2015 which has strongly

influence on many sectors of domestic and foreign enterprises in Vietnam, adding to
that, the decline of real estate in 2014 makes the construction go down. Moreover by
the end of 2014, the company sets the target to achieve total revenues in 2015 is
75,185 million VND. But the company exceeds the target 3,262 million VND. So, the
figures that PCC1 achieves in 2015 are relatively incentive. Besides, in terms of
economic difficulties, almost all Power Construction Companies in particular and
other sectors generally encounter these problems. It leads to total output in 2015 fell
sharply in comparison to 2014 which are 3,414 million VND, equivalent with 96.34%.
Besides, although the company has negative revenues and relating to increased repair
and maintenance expenses thanks to the outside operating and other activities the
company still obtained large profits. The budget in 2015 is 2,000 million VND, 2,497
million VND less than in 2014, make up for the short-term losses and long-term
operations in the future, the company will overcome difficulties in the coming years
and gradually stabilize its business. With the plan in 2015, average labor increases
from 46 to 56 workers in order to ensure the implementation of business activities
reaches the highest efficiency. When having done, the company reaches to 94.64% as
the plans. It means that the number of employees in the structure increase by 7 people.
Because of deficit revenue, plus increasing the average labor, the average income of
workers one month also reduces from 11,2 million VND to 11 million VND,
equivalent to 102% compared with the plan , and reaches 98.21% compared with the

number in 2014.
Through table 2.1, we can see that the plan company drew up in 2015, sales
are lower than in 2014. The reasons are that the company knows social-economic
situation at that time (2014) but also determines the economic difficulties, so this
strategy is reasonable. In 2015, with the complex operation of the market, China
which devalues the yuan hits on the world economy in general and Vietnam in
particular. In this case, the company still makes efforts and exceeds the targets, which
are a good result of PCC1.
2.3. Evaluation the advantages and disadvantages about business activities of
the company

2.3.1. Advantages


Enterprises have a clear long-term strategy and an ambitious that will be the



guideline for developing firm.
Equipment is invested to create a new ability. The company fully acts in production







and the company’s brand is increasingly asserted.
The executive management operates very effectively and actively.
Operating long time, so it is known in customer hearts.
Our labor is high level.
The members of company are a high unity.
2.3.2. Disadvantages



Currently, enterprises only focus on exploring domestic market that do not pay
attention to exploit overseas market, is one of the markets which could make a large

profit.
• Potential finance is limited.
• Some staff and workers lack sense of responsibility and profession.
• In the market there are too many competitors(the cooperative, car, landing ).
2.3.3. The current use of English in the company
Currently, English plays an important role in business activities. English is an
essential tool to help enterprises access to foreign partners. For PCC1 because of not
expanding overseas market, using English in the company is somewhat limited. .
The company operates mainly in the power construction field, now the fields
in which PCC1 uses English the most is import and export the materials, equipment
and machinery. In recent times, the company starts searching operations and expands
relationships with investors and foreign partners. To support business, the company's
staff are trained to negotiate, write emails, communicate and perform transactions
contract ... Nowadays, almost half of employees in the company can communicate,
write or read basic English very well, which makes cooperation with foreign partners

not too difficult as before.
Human Resources Department is one of the function departments often uses
English. The functions and duties of this department are to develop business relations
with the oversea partners. We learn how to manage business activities of foreign
enterprises to improve, develop management system and manage projects with

foreign partners. English is a useful tool for HR department to conduct its activities.
Through analysis of the current use English now, we can see that some advantages
and limitations using English of the company.
2.3.3.1. Advantages:


Using English is to help employees access to the knowledge business field with all
countries over the world. Since then, the company learns and enhances the

professional level to improve the quality of human resources in the enterprise.
• Experience and good English resources help implement the foreign projects more


easily.
In addition, the leaders often go abroad in order to study the market, learn
experience from partner banks so English is an advantage.
2.3.3.2. Disadvantages:




Some departments do not have conditions to use English regularly, English level of
staff is reduced which causes difficulties to collect specialized knowledge from



foreign documents.
The main customers of the company are domestic’s individual and organizations, so
staff’s English ability is also limited when communicating with clients and dealing
with transaction situation.

CHAPTER 3
LIMITATIONS IN BUSINESS ACTIVITIES OF THE COMPANY
AND SOLUTIONS.
3.1. Limitations in business activities of the company


The first limitation is organization structure of the company is the parent- subsidiary

system. Therefore, all business activities of the company depends on guiding of the
parent company, which makes subsidiary is lack of initiative each works such as

expanding market, looking for customer. That leads to low business efficiency, low
profit. We see clearly that there is the same operating model, business format as well as


specialized business between the parent company and other enterprises.
Because the main market of PCC1 is domestic market, using English of the company
is limited in deals, negotiations with suppliers and investors or foreign partners as

well as expanding market gets difficulties.
• In the company, there are some employees who lack sense of responsibility and weak
professional ability.
• Besides, the accounting work in the company contains some drawbacks which should be
solved such as implementing some works without requirements ,too much management
cost is. It is necessary to separate and allocate the cost for constructions. Especially,
manager wage system is large compared with the scale of the company. The way of
calculating wage is not suitable to the business case of the company and does not
encourage employees to work hard. Especially, there is no reward based on productivity
and work efficiency. Accounting materials and reflecting tool are not clear and detail.
3.2. Some solutions for enhancing business efficiency of PCC1

Solution for business strategy
In order to improve business efficiency, business strategy of PCC1 needs to
create remarkable differences by:


Implementing continuously marketing campaign to new targets customers such as

business, retailers with promotion and incentive programs for new customers.
• Creating the differences for products compared to other firms with competitive price is
one of the key solutions to enhance developing target customers.

• Developing brand to make PCC1 become enterprise that customers trust, love,
choose and are loyal through the mass media to promote the image of PCC1 brand,
programs for community.

Solution for training and developing human resources
PCC1 should pay attention to developing human resources so as to hold
employees who are qualified and experienced person, dedicated to the business and
dismiss staff having poor qualification also attract potential human resource to replace.
Recruitment
Promoting recruitment human resources who are qualified and professional person.

Also the company focuses on officers who have many experiences in construction
sector from other companies through the reputation of recruitment companies and
introduction of the staff of PCC1.
• Being proactive and cooperating with universities to prepare for the best students to
work in PCC1.

• Strengthening training by developing training programs, career roadmap and the job
skills for staff at all levels from new staff to senior leader.

• Strengthening seminar to exchange experience, professional skills.
• The basic training must be accompanied by the test to maintain and enhance the
quality of staff and employees.

• Implementing and developing the indicators to assess the effectiveness work of each
target.
• Developing annual or period incentive and fine plan.
• Researching and building employees incentive system.

Solutions for management organization
• About apparatus: Conducting and rearranging apparatus according to organization
model that is compact and efficient as well as building mechanisms to support
organizations, encourage and promote the democratic rights of workers so as to
improve business efficiency and protect the legitimate interests of workers.


About executive management: Carrying out building the executive management
regulations in accordance with a new type of enterprise and market mechanism.

Solutions for technology
• The company gradually replaces old and downgraded equipments and invest

equipments and modern technology to increase business efficiency.
The company establishes internal information system and exploits information

systems on the network to help business activities on time and effective.

Solutions for finance
• Making detailed plans to raise capital, expand business registered sectors so as to
maximize profits for business and boost incomes of workers.
• Investing in research, drawing projects to expand production, finding financial
partners, being good at technology to invest new manufacturing sectors. The
company need to diversify the type of production to exploit available potential
resource, both space and geography.
3.2.6. Proposals solutions on the use of English in PCC1

To reduce these drawbacks and expand business activities in the future, the
leaders need to define, make an English training plan beside the professional
acknowledge for all staffs in the company. The lessons focus on skills as
communication, negotiation, email, contract by English so that this language
becomes to be useful tool to support company’s business operations. Besides, the
company should arrange staff to participate seminar which shares experience selfEnglish organized external and internal country. Also the company supports all fields
such as: finance, mental… The company applies these incentive programs as wage
raise, reward so that staff makes effort and joins these activities.
Opportunities (O)
The macroeconomic situation is stable and sustainable growth: Vietnam which is the

world’s second country after China has stable economic conditions and high growth
in the past 10 years.
• The more the economy grows, the higher demand increases. This creates favorable
conditions for enterprises to develop and expand business operation.
• Creating a competitive environment of the government helps firms constantly try and
consolidate conditions and have sustainable competitive advantage and find their
position in the market.
• Inheriting, learning and drawing lessons from the company itself as well as studying
the strengths of the competitors in recent years so that the company is developing
comprehensive in accordance with the demand and the current economy situation.

Threats (T)
• Over the years because of the impact of the global economic crisis, Vietnam's
economy suffers from negative influences. This makes firms in the whole country
face with many difficulties.
• The competitors are stronger so a lot of enterprises appear with the bids lower than
the company.
• Customers’ demand is increasing about business’s services.
• High inflation and high input prices including rent, fuel, electricity, coal... make
company face with loss and decline.
• Unreasonable expenses occur during construction process are increasing which
always confounds production price, increases production costs and reduces the
efficiency of business production.
3.5. Personal experience

During four weeks working as an intern in the company, I myself acquired
many useful experiences as well as skills. These skills will accompany me and help
me in my future career. The experiences and skills including:
Firstly, the internship time gives me a chance to put my English learn at
university into practice. Each day I take responsibility to seek and contact with the
suppliers by email, telephone, also join my hand in looking into and check the sales
contract which is written in English. Through these activities, I see that the
knowledge learn at university is just the theory, how to use it effectively is decided
by practicing in the real life.
Secondly, I can improve my soft kills such as: communicating with the
customers, seniors and colleagues. In addition, the team work skill is better.

CONCLUSION
With the internship time is not much, the depth research on business activities,
especially the current use English of the company is very difficult. During the
internship time I have been acquainted with real knowledge. I’m instructed to the
practice based on the theory. Therefore, I study many experiences in my knowledge.
Over the internship time I have more confidence to prepare the work after
graduation.
With the enthusiastic guidance of Ms.Pham Thi Xuan Ha (M.A.) and the
instruction of Labor- Organization Department in PCC1, along with knowledge is
equipped with in school, I apply and put into the internship report.
Despite a lot attempts, the internship time and approaching the reality are too
short and limited knowledge, my internship report makes some inevitable mistakes. I
