- Ask SS: Do you want to know your future in
advance? (Students’ answsers) Do you often find a
fortune teller for information about your future?
(Students’ answsers) Did things happen to you as
predicted? (Students’ answsers)
- Ask SS: In the previous lesson, afuturologist
made some predictions about life in the future. Do
you remember any of his predictions?
(Students’ answsers)
- Ask: What did he say about th environment?
Expected: (He said) The environment will be
destroyed.
- Ask: Will it? (SS answers may vary: Yes. / No. / It
depends.)
- Say: It depends. Depends on what ?
(Students’ answsers)
- Say: Yeah, it depends on our sence of
responsibility, on our awareness of its importace,
and on our actions.


- Ask: Do you want to protect it ? What should you
do to pretect the environment? Do you know?
- Say: Good! So share your ideas with people
around the world. Just write an essay to the
Contest ‘ Friends of the Earth’.
Transition: Today I’ll give you time to do this. But
first let’s consider the requirements of the contest
and the prize you may get if tou win.
- Write on the board:

1. About the writing contest (Task a, p. 104)
- Tell SS to read the contest guidelines and the
essay on the topic ‘ Friends of the Earth’.
- Have SS answer the questions about the contest
and the essay.
- Call on SS to give answers to the questions.
- Go over the answers with the class.

2. A general outline
- From the sample, elicit the general outline of the
essay:

3. Brainstorming ideas
- Divide the class into small groups.
- Have SS disuss and give opinions on what they

could do to build a greener world for tomorrow.
- Choose SS to present the opnions of their groups
to the rest of the class.
- Note down SS ideas on the board.
- Give feedback and comments.
Activity 1: Writing an outline
- Tell SS they are going to write an essay to take
part in the writing contest.
- Tell SS to think of what they will do and write an
outline for their essay.
