I. Presentation: (15’)

- Give some examples on the

infinitives with to in the sentences. afford, agree, appear, arrange, attempt, ask,
choose, decide, demand, determine, expect,

offer, plan, pretend, promise, refuse, resolve,
seem, threaten, want, wish, would like….
* Notes:
- advise, allow, ask, enable, encourage, forbid,
force, invite, order, permit, persuade, remind,
request, tell, urge, want, warn, would like… +
O + to V.
Ex: The tourist guide advised us to see the old
tower.
- They are used after some adjectives.
Ex: This math problem is not easy to solve.
- cost/ take + O + to V.
Ex: It will cost a lot of money to make a trip
around the world.
- To V for purposes. (we can use same other
structures : in order to + to V , so as to + V ).
- It is/ seems + adj + to V.

Ex: It is dangerous to drive on slippery roads.
- Too + adjs/ advs (for some body) + to V.
Ex: This job is too hard for him to do.

I was too tired to do any more work.
- Adjs/ advs + enough (for somebody) + to V.
Ex: The sea was warm enough for us to swim

- V + how/ what/ when/ where/ which/ why + to
V.
Ex: He couldn’t think what to say.
2. Infinitives without to:
- Ask sts to review how to use bare
infinitives in the sentences.

- Verbs have a syllable end by a consonant
(before a consonant is a vowel)  double
consonant and add ED.
Ex: beg  begged.

- Verbs have many syllables but stress at the
end of verbs:
Ex: permit  permitted.
Prefer  preferred.
- Verbs end by ‘l”  ll +ED.
Ex: travel  travelled.
