computer.AfterEffects7.0requiresaminimumof512MBof
RAM;1GBormoreisrecommended.ThemoreRAMthatis
availabletoAfterEffects,thefastertheapplicationwillworkfor
you.

OpenGLsupport

OpenGLisasetofstandardsfordeliveringhigh-performance
2Dand3Dgraphicsforawidevarietyofapplications.Although
AfterEffectscanfunctionwithoutit,OpenGLacceleratesvarious
typesofrendering,includingrenderingtothescreenfor
previews.TogetthefullbenefitofOpenGLinAfterEffects,
you'llneedanOpenGLcardthatsupportsOpenGL2.0andhas
ShadersupportandsupportforNPOT(NonPowerofTwo)
textures.TheminimumrequirementforusingOpenGLwith
AfterEffectsisacardthatsupportsOpenGL1.5.Whenyoufirst
startAfterEffects,itwillattempttodetermineifyourOpenGL
cardmeetstherequirements,anditwillenableordisable
OpenGLasappropriate.

Installinglessonfonts
Toensurethatthelessonsappearonyoursystemwiththe

system,youdonotneedtoinstallthem.Otherwise,youcan

Restoringdefaultpreferences
ThepreferencesfilecontrolsthewaytheAfterEffectsuser
interfaceappearsonyourscreen.Theinstructionsinthisbook
assumethatyouseethedefaultinterfacewhentheydescribe
theappearanceoftools,options,windows,panels,andsoforth.
Becauseofthis,it'sagoodideatorestorethedefault
preferences,especiallyifyouarenewtoAfterEffects.
EachtimeyouquitAfterEffects,thepalettepositionsand
certaincommandsettingsarerecordedinthepreferencesfile.
Ifyouwanttorestorethepalettestotheiroriginaldefault
settings,youcandeletethecurrentAfterEffectspreferences
file.(AfterEffectscreatesanewpreferencesfileifonedoesn't
alreadyexistthenexttimeyoustarttheprogram.)
Restoringthedefaultpreferencescanbeespeciallyhelpfulif
someonehasalreadycustomizedAfterEffectsonyour
computer.IfyourcopyofAfterEffectshasn'tbeenusedyet,

thisfilewon'texist,sothisprocedureisunnecessary.
Important:Ifyouwanttosavethecurrentsettings,youcan
