TAPESCRIPT:
Last year 1 went to Nepal for three months to York in a hospital. When the hospital let me have a few days'
holiday, 1 decided to go into the jungle and I asked a Nepalese guide, Kamal Rai, to go with me. In the jungle
there was a lot of wildlife, but we were trying to find big cats, especially tigers. We climbed onto the elephants'
backs to get better view, but it is unusual to find tigers in the afternoon because they sleep in the heat of the day.

Then, in the distance, we saw a tiger, and Kamal told me to be very quiet. We crept nearer and found a dead
deer. still bleeding. This was the tiger's lunch! Suddenly. I started to feel very frightened.
We heard the tiger a second before we saw it. It jumped out like a flash of lightning, five hundred kilos plus
and four meters long. I looked into its eyes and face, and saw right down the animal's throat. It grabbed Kamal's
between its teeth, but I managed to pull Kamal away. One of our elephants ran at the tiger and made it go back
into the grass, so we quickly escaped to let the tiger cat its lunch. That night it was impossible to sleep!

Music is clearly different from language. People can, (23)______, use it to communicate things especially
their emotion and when allied with speech in a song, it is one of the most powerful (24)____ of communication
that humans have. But what, biologically speaking, is it? If music is truly distinct from speech, then it ought to
have a distinct processing mechanism the brain – one that keeps it separate from the interpretation of other
sounds, including language. The evidence suggests that such a (25)____ mechanism does indeed, exist. Scientific
curiosity the auditory systems dates back to the mid-19th century. In 1861 Paul Broca, a French surgeon,
observed that speech was impaired due (26)____ damage to a particular part of the brain, now known as Broca’s
area and was similarly immortalized. The location of different language (27)____ tasks in Broca’s areas (found in

Man is a land animal, but he is also closely tied to the sea. Throughout history the sea has served the
needs of man. The sea has provided man with food and convenient way to travel to many parts of the world.
Today, nearly two thirds of the world population live within 80 kilometers of the sea coast.
In the modern technological world, the sea offers many resources to help mankind survive. Resources
on land are beginning to be used up. The sea, however, still can be hoped to supply many of man’s needs.
The lists of riches of the sea yet to be developed by man’s technology is impressive. Oil and gas
explorations have been carried out for nearly 30 years. Valuable amounts of minerals exist on the ocean floor
ready to be mined.
Fish farming promises to be a good way to produce large quantities of food. The culture of fish and
selfish is an ancient skill practiced in the past mainly by Oriental people.
Besides oil and gas, the sea may offer new sources of energy. Experts believe that the warm temperature
of the ocean can be used in a way similar to the steam in the steamship. Ocean currents and waves offers
possible use as a source of energy.
Technology is enabling man to explore ever more deeply under the sea. The development of strong, new

materials has made this possible.

The technology to harvest the sea continues to improve. Experts believe that by the year 2000 the
problems that prevent us from exploiting fully the food, minerals, energy sources of the sea will be largely
solved.
