TOBACCO TYPES


The fug of tobacco smoke is common in the country’s myriad cafes, bars and
restaurants. A high-tar cigarette is widely deemed the perfect companion to a
coffee or beer, particularly among Vietnamese men, 47,4 percent of whom are
smokers (according to the WHO’s 2010 Global Adult Tobacco Survey).


According the Tobacco Control. Around 80% of the
world's 1.3 billion smokers live in low and middle
income countries.


Vietnam is among the 15 countries with the highest number
of smokers and the highest rate of male smoking. Fortunately,
the rate of female smokers is low, accounting for only 1.4% of


adult females. There are currently 4.1 million adults who
smoke (Global Census of Tobacco Use - GATS-2010).

Every year, tobacco kill nearly 6 million people on the world. In
Vietnam, more than 100 people die every day because of smoking,
tobacco-related diseases are the leading cause of death, causing about
40,000 deaths each year.

Smoking also affects the health of people who don't smoke. Being
around someone who is smoking can expose you to what's called
"secondhand smoke", which is associated with a range of diseases and
ill health effects. This is also sometimes referred to as "passive
smoking".

THE ADVICE
Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) provides a low level of
nicotine without the other poisonous chemicals in tobacco
smoke.
This helps to ease some of the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal,
such as intense cravings, nausea, tingling of hands and feet,
insomnia, mood swings, and difficulty concentrating. NRT is
available on prescription or over-the-counter at pharmacies as / in
several different forms as:
• nicotine gums
• patches
• sprays
• inhalers
• lozenges
