<b>+ Prepositions of time: in, on, at, for, after, before, between, up to, </b>


<b>till, until …</b>



We use:


 <b>at</b> for a PRECISE TIME
 <b>on</b> for DAYS and DATES


 <b>in</b> for MONTHS, YEARS, CENTURIES and LONG PERIODS


<b>at</b>


times: at 8pm, at midnight, at 6:30
holiday periods: at Christmas, at Easter
<b>at night/noon</b>


<b>at the weekend</b>


<b>at lunchtime, at dinnertime, at breakfast time</b>


<b>on</b>


days: on Monday, on my birthday, on Christmas Day
days + morning / afternoon / evening / night: on Tuesday
morning


dates: on the 20th of June



<b>in</b>


years: in 1992, in 2006


months: in December, in June


decades: in the sixties, in the 1790s
centuries: in the 19th century


seasons: in the winter/summer


<b>in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening</b>


<b>+ Prepositions of place: in, on, at, above, below, behind, beside, in </b>

<b>Phrasal verbs</b>



+Verb + preposition / adverb ( put on, turn off, look for, take over ……)


+ Special meaning, can’t be figured out by the meaning of each word


+ same verb with a different preposition/adverb → the meaning changes



Example: turn + on = to start the flow of electricity, water…by moving a


switch, button



turn + off = to stop the flow of electricity, water…by moving


a switch, button



+ Some phrasal verbs have more than one meaning


Example: take off = to remove sth



take off = to leave the ground and begin to fly
