<b>I. Objective : </b>


To consolidate the sound of the letters Aa, Bb, Cc and Dd and the
corresponding words


Learn and practice reading skills

<b>1. Teacher: - Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the </b>
chant.

<b>2. Warm up (5’) </b>


Arrange some chairs, back to back, in the middle of the room
Choose phonics cards and place them on the chairs


Play a song <i>(use a song from the previous units)</i>


When the music stops the students pick up a phonics card and, one at time,
tell Teacher the name of the item pictured on their phonics card


The student who gives an incorrect answer is out of the activity
Play the activity as many times as necessary

Tell the students that it’s story time.

Ask them if they like reading stories and what
their favourite story <i>(or character)</i> is



Prepare phonics cards of these words: <i>ant, </i>
<i>bed, dog, cat, clock, dragon, drum </i>


Ask the students to read out the words
Invite students to guess what they think the
story is about <i>(do not dismiss any ideas)</i>


Ask the students to open their books


Ask them questions about what they can see in
the pictures


<i>e.g. Teacher: (pointing to the dog in picture </i>
<i>1) Look! What’s this?</i>


<i> Class: (It’s a) dog!</i>


<i> Teacher: (pointing to the bed in picture </i>
<i>1) Yes! The dog is on the ….</i>


<i> Class: bed! etc</i>


Play the CD and ask the students to listen and
follow the story in their books, pointing to the
pictures of the key words


Play the CD again pausing for the students to
repeat



Ask individual students to read the story aloud
<b>Extension (optional)</b>


Ask the students to read the story again


Then ask them to look at the pictures for a few
minutes and close their books


Say a few sentences <i>(some correct and some </i>


<i>incorrect) </i>and ask the students to say yes or no


<i>e.g. Teacher: The dog is on the bed.</i>
<i>Student 1: Yes!</i>


<i>Teacher: The dragon is on the clock.</i>

Point to the animals and ask students to name
them


Ask the students to say which animals appear
in the story


Ask them to colour those animals

<b>2. Warm up (5’) </b>


<b>Activity: Memory Game </b>


Put up some phonics cards on the board.
Line up students into 2 teams of 6


Call a student from each team to stand 1m from the board


Read words out loud, one at time (e.g. ant), the students must run to tap the
card of that word


The student who taps the correct card first will get 1 point for his/her team.
The team with the most points wins the activity

win the activity
