<b>2. Warm up (5’) </b>


<i><b>Activity: Chinese Whispers Game</b></i>


- T divide the class into2 teams with the same numbers of students in each team.
- The first student of each team runs to the teacher (at the same time); teacher
whispers a word/words/ a simple sentence to them.


- The first student whispers the word/words to the student sitting next to or behind
him/her and so on.


- The last students say the word/words/sentence aloud.
- The team has the correct answer is the winner.

- Put the phonics cards face up on the


table/stick them on the board (may use some
cards from the previous lessons)


- Give the students 10 seconds to look at the
cards.


- Have students close their eyes and then you
take away one cards.


- Tell the students to open their eyes and
name the missing cards


<i><b>7. Listen, point and repeat. Color the </b></i>
<i><b>pictures of the words that start with the y </b></i>



<i><b>sound. Say the y words </b><b>(10’)</b></i>


- Show the students the <i>watermelon </i>phonics
card. Point to it and say<i>: /j/ - Yogurt.</i> Ask
them to repeat.


- Mime playing the violin and say: <i>/j/ - </i>
<i>Yogurt</i> Encourage the students to do the
same


- Play the CD. The students listen, point to
and repeat the word.


- Point to the picture and have students name
them.


- Allow the students some time to colour in
the pictures of words start with the /j/ sound.
- Go around the class providing any


necessary help.


<i><b>Activity: Craftwork</b><b> (8’)</b></i>


- T ask the students to take out their
notebooks.


- Ask them to choose one word then draw the
letter Y and the picture of the item in their
notebooks.



- Tell them to decorate the letter and the
picture.


- The first three students who finish will
present their letters and pictures to the class.

- T writes on the board the capital letter Y (write
slowly to demonstrate its formation).


- Point to it and elicit the sound <i>/j/</i>


- Show the formation in the air (taking care when
facing to the students that the letter is formed the
correct way for them).


- Repeat with the small letter y


- The students trace the letters in their activity
books.


- Go around and provide any necessary help. Ask
the students to say the sound of the letter.

<i><b>Activity 2: Trace and match </b><b>(7’)</b></i>


- Check around the classroom.


- Put up the phonics cards on the board and ask
the students to memorize the order in which the
items appear.


- Ask the students to close their eyes and remove
the cards.



- Ask individual students to name the items in the
correct order.


- Change the order of the phonics cards and repeat
the activity.


<i><b>Activity 3: Say the words. Circle the correct </b><b>(6’)</b></i>


- Point to the pictures and elicit their names
- Ask the students to look at the pictures, say the
word and circle the letter their names begin with
- Go around and provide any necessary help.


<i><b>Activity 4: Say the sounds. Color the right </b></i>
<i><b>shapes </b><b>(5’)</b></i>


- Point to the letters and say the sounds.
- Point to the pictures and elicit their names.
- Ask Ss to colour the shape that corresponds to
the initial letter of each item any colour they like.
- Go around the classroom and provide any
necessary help.


<i><b>Activity: Draw it </b><b>(5’)</b></i>


- Divide the class into 2 teams, A and B. Ask two
Ss from each team to come to the board


- T names a vocabulary item.



- In a limited time, the students quickly draw it.
- Ss who finish first wins a point for team.
