Active Network
Definition
 A programmable network is a packet

transmission network. It's an open an
extensible architecture.
The goal is a very quick method for the
integration of the new services .
It's an extensible network, it's easy change
the comportment and dynamically.
(following how the clients use it)
The actual networks (1/2)

For the new services, the cost is high
and the deployment is slow.
The standardization is necessary

Ex : IPV6, Diffserv

Re-use the actual services

Ex : UDP et TCP

A transparent and passive network
No interaction between the semantic of
data and the service's live.
The actual networks (2/2)

The network devices are closed
 Programmable only with the customer
interfaces
 No modifications dynamically
Lack of interoperability
 Between the different customers (Router)
 Between the routers and the services
customers with add value
