The Soneplex System
from ADC. The T1/E1
Service Delivery Experts
The Soneplex Loop Extender system is
an efficient, cost-effective solution for
T1-based service delivery. It supports
DS1 network interfaces and up to 28
DS1 loop transport modules. Integrated
network management lets carriers save
on overall operations costs through the
entire system lifecycle.
ADC’s Soneplex system is the lowest
total cost solution for carriers to grow
their T1-based business services. Focused on providing flexible, end-
to-end solutions, the Soneplex system saves carriers money on T1-
based services over copper or fiber, using HDSL, HDSL2, ADSL,
traditional T1 repeater or optical DS2 technology, in a single platform.
From operations, maintenance, provisioning and high-speed backbone
connections to central office space and cabling, the Soneplex system is
designed to take costs out of today’s T1 delivery approach, adding
profit to your bottom line.
FEATURES

• Cost-effective DS1 network connection
• Delivers T1s using HDSL, HDSL2, repeated T1, and optical DS2
• Supports TL1 over X.25 and TCP/IP, TBOS and SNMP protocols for
flexible alarm management, per-circuit visibility and provisioning
• Full carrier-class functionality and hardened design
• NEBS certified; completed OSMINE process

Loop Extender System
The Soneplex Loop Extender system is ideal for a variety of applications including point-
to-multipoint hubs, outside plant applications, building or campus service distribution,
and cellular transport-site feeds. The system accepts up to 28 electrical DS1 feeds – from
a multiplexer, digital cross-connect system (DCS) or other network device – and distrib-
utes them over copper or fiber facilities from a single chassis.
The Soneplex Loop Extender system provides local loop distribution of up to 28 DS1
signals using a variety of transmission technologies. DS1 transport over fiber utilizes
optical DS2 modules to carry four DS1 signals to a remote location. For copper-based
DS1 transport, the Soneplex Loop Extender can use standard T1 repeater, HDSL, or
HDSL2 modules, LAN Extension modules or ADSL modules. Each system is also
equipped with a Main Processor Unit (MPU) or Shelf Controller Unit (SCU) and an Alarm
Processor Unit (APU) for total control over the transport network.

Loop Extender System
The standard 23-inch Soneplex Loop Extender system accepts electrical DS1 network
input and distributes up to 28 DS1 circuits over copper or fiber facilities. The manage-
ment and maintenance section consists of an MPU or SCU and APU, and supports
telemetry byte oriented serial (TBOS), transaction language 1 (TL1) and simple network
management protocol (SNMP) for remote connection to an operations support system
(OSS). It also supports a menu-driven craft interface and X.25 and alarm contact closure

interfaces.

The 19-inch Soneplex Loop Extender system accepts electrical DS1 network input and
distributes up to 20 DS1 circuits over copper or fiber facilities. Ideal for PCS or cellular
applications, the 19-inch Soneplex Loop Extender chassis saves valuable real estate. The
management and maintenance section consists of an MPU or SCU and APU, and sup-
ports TBOS, TL1 and SNMP for remote connection to an OSS. It also supports a menu-
driven craft interface and X.25 and alarm contact closure interfaces.

Loop Extender System
Main Processor Unit
The Main Processor Unit (MPU) provides extensive network management for
system configuration, remote provisioning, maintenance, circuit visibility and
performance monitoring. It collects and reports the performance monitoring
information to an OSS via a TL1/X.25 or TBOS connection for centralized
management and system control. The MPU contains FLASH memory for
software upgrade capability.

The Shelf Controller Unit (SCU) provides extensive network management for
system configuration, remote provisioning and circuit visibility. The SCU adds
SNMP capability while supporting standard TL1 commands over TCP/IP.
Configuration data is stored on the module and may be uploaded or down-
loaded. Front panel access provides craft control and remote connections that
can be made through a modem network. An optional graphical user interface
(GUI) element management system is available for stand-alone operation for
integration into a network management system.
