In England, boys and girls go to school five days a week. They don't go to school on Saturdays
and Sundays. Lessons usually begin at 9 o'clock. Each lesson lasts forty five minutes. At 11:15,
they stop to have a light meal. Some pupils eat sandwiches or biscuits, some others drink milk.
Then they have two lessons more. After that they have a lunch break. Some pupils go home for

Hoi An Ancient Town is situated on 30km south of Da nang and known as a Faifoo to early
Western traders. Hoi An was one of the major trading centers in Southeast Asia in the 16th-17th

centuries. Hoi An was also an important port of call for Dutch, Portuguese, Italian, Chinese,

Japanese, Indonesia and other merchant vessels in the Far East. In the town, there are one or two
streets whose original structures remain almost intact. All the houses were made of rare wood and
were decorated with horizontal lacquered board and vertical parallel panels engraved with

Chinese characters. Hoi An is highly attractive for historical, geographic, artistic, architectural…
aspects.

In recent years, Hoi An has become a popular tourist destination in Vietnam. In 1999, it was

Jack London (1876-1916)

Jack London’s life and writing are thought by many to represent the American love of
nature. He was born in San Francisco, California, and quit school at fourteen to become a sailor.
He traveled a great deal during his short lifetime in the United States, Europe and the Far East.

Jack London took a high place in American literature at the beginning of the 20th century. At

that time, the library shelves and bookshops of America were already full of books by famous
writers. But Jack London’s stories were new ones; his heroes were not like the ones in the books
of other writers, and the pictures he painted were not the same as their pictures.

The men in Jack London’s books live a difficult life, a life full of danger. In his stories, Jack
London shows us that in the terrible world a man must fall and die in the snow if he makes even
the smallest mistake. But his heroes are afraid of nothing, and nothing can stop them. People in
books by Jack London never lose hope; they never stop fighting for life even when the end of life
seems very near. That is the lesson for people to learn in everything we want and everything we
do; if we do not lose hope, we must and will win.

Marie Curie, the Polish-born physicist and chemist, was a courageous and determined

woman. She was born on November 7th, 1867. She left her home for Paris to pursue her interest in

science. Living in poverty, she still managed to graduate at the top of the class. She met Pierre
Curie shortly after graduation and married him a year later. Together, Pierre and Marie formed the
most famous husband-and-wife partnership in science history. They discovered the radioactive
elements, Polonium and Radium. They were awarded the Nobel Prize in 1903.
