Our life would be hard without rest and recreation. And people have many different
ideas of how to spend their free time. If you enjoy doing a thing or activity in your free
time, then you have hobby. A hobby is an activity, interest, enthusiasm, or pastime that is
undertaken for pleasure os relaxation, done during one’s own time. A person’s hobbies
depend on his age, character and personal interests. An interesting thing to one person
can be boring to another. That’s why some people prefer reading, cooking, knitting,
collecting, playing a musical instrument, photography or playing computer games while

about compound sentences, Imperatives with more and less. Writing about health advices

-Imperatives for direct commands, oders or suggestions: more and less.

1. MORE / LESS

- "more" (nhiều hơn): là dạng so sánh hơn của "many" và

- "less, fewer" (ít hơn): “less” là biến đổi của “little”, còn
“fewer” là biến đổi của “few”.
- “more” dùng để so sánh số lượng vật này nhiều hơn vật kia,
còn “fewer” và “less” được dùng để so sánh số lượng của vật
này ít hơn vật kia.
Cấu trúc so sánh:
* more + plural N/ uncountable N + than
plural noun: danh từ đếm được số nhiều
uncountable noun: danh từ không đếm được
Eg:
I can earn more money than my brother. (Tơi có thể kiếm được
nhiều tiền hơn anh trai của tôi.)
* less + uncountable N + than


- Practice by giving

Eg:
- This river suffers less pollution than that river. (Dòng sơng
này chịu ít ơ nhiễm hơn dịng sơng kia.)
- Children in big cities have less space to play in. (Trẻ em ở các
thành phố lớn thì có ít khơng gian để chơi hơn.)
* fewer + plural N + than
Eg: - Vietnam has fewer universities than Korea.
- Rural areas generally have fewer child care centers.
Lưu ý:
- Trong cả 3 cấu trúc thì danh từ đếm được số ít đều khơng
được sử dụng.
- Trên đây là công thức khái quát nhất, tùy từng câu mà các em
cần áp dụng cho phù hợp.
- Chúng ta chỉ dùng “than” khi nhắc đến đối tượng được so
sánh thứ 2. Trong trường hợp ngược lại ta có thể bỏ “than” đi.
2. Cấu trúc và cách dùng THE MORE – THE MORE
* Với tính từ
So sánh kép (Double comparatives) là cấu trúc dùng để diễn đạt
về việc một người hoặc vật thay đổi về một khía cạnh cụ thể nào
đó và điều này gây ra một tác động song song tới người hoặc vật
khác.
Cấu trúc và cách dùng THE MORE – THE MORE hay nói rộng
hơn chính là cấu trúc và cách dùng của câu dạng so sánh kép.
The + Adj so sánh hơn 1 + S2 + V2, the + Adj so sánh hơn 2
+ S2 + V2

e.g.
– The harder you study, the better the result is. (Bạn càng học
hành chăm chỉ, kết quả càng cao.)
– The more generous you are, the more loved you are. (Anh
càng rộng lượng thì anh càng được yêu thương.)
* Với danh từ
Theo sau THE MORE có thể là tính từ ở dạng so sánh hơn, hoặc
cũng có thể là danh từ. Trong câu THE MORE theo sau bởi
danh từ, MORE sẽ đóng vai trị là tính từ ở dạng so sánh hơn
của MANY/MUCH và mang ý nghĩa về số lượng “càng nhiều”.
Ngồi THE MORE, ta có thể dùng THE FEWER (cho danh từ
đếm được), THE LESS (cho danh từ không đếm được) trước
danh từ. THE MORE được sử dụng cho cả danh từ đếm được và
không đếm được và đừng quên biến đổi danh từ đếm được nhé!
