TASK 2
Some people think that museums should be enjoyable places to entertain people, while others believe that the
purpose of museums is to educate. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
A lot of people hold different views regarding the aim of museums. It seems to me that museums need to entail
both entertainment and education.
On the one hand, there is no doubt that the role of museums is to divert and attract a diversity wide range of
people. FristlyFirstly, so as to further engage visitors, museums are making interactive exhibits a with focal points.
Secondly, ordinary people may become bored when they are inundated with educational content, so museums
often stress the importance on enjoyment in preference to learning. For example, games and engaging activities
can be part of the exhibitions, so museums are likely to be more appealing to people of all ages.
On the other hand, it cannot be denied that emphasis on education merits careful consideration. Firstly, it is
received wisdom that the main role of museums is to impart any knowledge concerning the objects and the
history behind them to the public . Secondly, learning in museums can help people understand the historical
values of the exhibits and respect diverse cultures. Therefore, this can enhance their critical thinking and
acquisition skills. For instance, formal and professional talks are given to provide details of the exhibition while
others can employ modern equipments to access information of interest.
To conclude, I strongly hold the belief that a true museum should be able to afford the public the opportunity to
simultaneously experience fascinating, pleasant and informative aspects upon visiting.
