I. Aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
 Develop Reading skill for general and specific information.
 Present and expand new words.
 Know more about some superstitious beliefs of Vietnamese people
and the rituals during Tet holiday.
II. Teaching aids : PowerPoint, Textbook, Laptop, Big Computer Screen, Pieces of
Paper, Handouts, Chalk, and Board

5’ A. Warm-up: WHISPER GAME
Instruction: “Now, I would like to divide you into
six teams. Each line is a team. Each team will
choose one representative to come here and pick
up the piece of paper containing a comparison
sentence. Then each representative of each team
will return to his or her seat and whisper the
message to the next person sitting behind until the
last person of team gets the message within 1
minute. The team which can repeat the message
correctly will be the winner.”

b. Read the statements in textbook on page 19 and
decide if these statements are true for you.

2. Pre-reading:
a. Pre-teach vocabulary: listening and repeat
 superstition (n) /ˌsuːpəˈstɪʃn / a belief that certain
events or things will bring good or bad luck
E.g. According to superstition, breaking a
mirror brings bad luck.

 prestigious (adj) /prɛˈstɪdʒəs/
Inspiring respect and admiration; having
high status
 legend (n) /ˈlɛdʒ(ə)nd/ a story from the past that is
believed by many people but cannot be proved to
be true

 Instruction: “Now, you will read a text on a topic

prediction is true or false, read the passage in your
textbook right now.”

Read the text and answer the questions by circling the best

you superstitious? Why/ why not?”
- The guiding questions to support them.
 Do you think you are a superstitious person?
 If yes, what are you superstitious about? Or
could you give a few examples of superstitious
beliefs you have?
 If not, why not? Give your reason.
- Example:
If your answer is Yes “For me, I am a bit superstitious.
Let me give an example. Well, I believe that if I find a

four- leaf clover, I will have good luck.”
If your answer is No “No, I’m not superstitious at all.
