Lesson plan:
UNIT 10: NATURE IN DANGER
A - READING
I. Aim:
1. Skills: + guessing meaning in context
+ identifying main idea
+ passage comprehension
+ Pairwork and groupwork
+ practice language: pollutant, have a great influence on smt, be indanger of smt,
interfere, prohibit...
2. Knowledge:
For better understanding of the ways which human being are changing the world and
serious consequences of people’s interference with the environment.
3. Attitude towards:
Ss will talk about the activities which they should do to protect the environment, using
the words and phrases that they have learnt.

1. Teacher: textbook, Pictures in activity 1, 4
2. Students: pens, text books…

Warm up:
Activity 1
- Purpose: To introduce the topic of the lesson and to raise Ss’ interest.
(5 minutes)
- Instruction: T asks Ss to look at the pictures in the textbook and read
the facts about endangered species, then work in pair to discuss the
questions:
1. What do you understand from the facts?
2. Can you explain why the numbers of these animals become small?


T checks the answers with the whole class.
- T leads into the new lesson.
- Sts work in pairs to discuss the questions.
- two pairs present their work.
- Others provide comment.
* Suggested answer
1. The facts above show that the numbers of some wild or rare animals
such as cheetahs, pandas and Siberian tigers become small or extinct.
2. The numbers of these animals become small because they are killed
for food, medicines, fur or skin; people destroy their environment….
I. BEFORE YOU READ
Activity 2
* Purpose: This activity introduces some newwords to Sts.
( 6 minutes)
* Instructions:
- T introduces some newwords of the lesson. T read the words and asks
sts to guess the meaning of these words.
+ pollutant( n): chất gây ô nhiễm
+ have a great influence on: có ảnh hưởng lớn đến...
+ environment(n): môi trường


+ protect(v): bảo vệ
+ prohibit (v) cấm
+ be in danger of: đang gặp nguy hiểm
+ extinct( a) tuyệt chủng
+ interfere(v): can thiệp
- Sts listen to T and take notes.
- Sts read the words after T.
- Some Sts read again.

Activity 3
( 24 minutes)

- Sts practice reading the new words.
II. WHILE YOU READ
* Purpose: This activity focuses Sts on developing their reading for the
specific information, guessing meaning in context, identifying main idea
and passage comprehension.
Task 1: (8 minutes)
- Instruction: T asks Sts to fill each blank with suitable words, use the
words in the box all appear in the passage. T asks Ss to scan the passage
quickly, underline the keywords in each sentences.
- Sts work individually then exchange the answers with their partner.
- Some Sts present their work on the board.
- Others provide comment.
- T checks with the whole class and gives feedback.
Suggested answers:
1. extinct
2. protect
3. decreasing
4. pollutants
5. endangered
6. interference
Task 2: ( 6 minutes)
- Instruction: There are some titles that are the best sump up each
paragraph. Now, work in pairs to circle A, B, C and D that best sump up
each paragraph.
- T asks Ss to read the sum up of each paragraph carefully and underline
the key words.
- T asks Ss to work individually, then discuss their answers with a

partner.
- Some Sts are called on to give the answers in front of the class.
- Others provide comment.
- T checks with the whole class and gives feedback.

Task3: (10 minutes)
- Instruction: T asks Sts to answer the question in groups. T asks Sts to
underline the keywords in each questions:
E.g.: 1. What, four ways, human being, changing …world.

- Ss read the statements carefully and find the answer.
- Sts present their work on the board.

Suggested answers:
1. Four ways that people change the world are:

+ They are changing the environment by building cities and villages.
+ They are affecting the water supply by using water for industry and
agriculture.
+ They are changing weather conditions by cutting down trees in the
forests.
+ They are destroying the air by adding pollutants like smoke from
factories and fumes from cars.
2. The serious consequences of people’s interference with the
environment are:
+ many kind of rare animals are killed
+ the environment where these animals are living is badly destroyed.
+ the numbers of rare animals are decreasing so rapidly that they are in
danger of becoming extinct.
3. Many things have been done to protect endangered nature such as:
+ many organizations have been set up and money has been raised to
save rare animals.
+ thousands of national parks have been established.
+ laws have been passed to prohibit killing endangered animals.
III. AFTER YOU READ
- Purpose: This activity helps Sts to use words and phrases that they have
just learnt in reading lesson to summarize the main points of the lesson.
- Instruction: T asks Sts to talk about the reasons why animals have
become extinct and the activities which they should do to protect the
environment, using the words and phrases that they have learnt in
reading lesson.
- Sts work in groups to discuss.
- 2 Sts present their work in front of the class.
- T provides comment.
Suggested answer:
+ The reasons why animals have become extinct:

People kill animals for fur, skin and food.
People keep animals as pets.
People hunt or capture animals for recreation or entertainment
People destroy the environment.
+ The activities which they should do to protect the environment:
Keep the environment in our home, school, class clean and fresh.
Plant more trees
Make people aware of protecting the environment.

- 2 Sts retell some words/phrases that they have learnt.
- T asks Ss to prepare the next lesson, part B. Speaking
