- Arrange Ss to work in groups of five or six.

- How do you read books?
Introduce the new lesson.
In today’s readinf lesson, you’ll get to know some
ways of reading or some reading habits.
2. Pre-reading:
New words/phrases: (10')
- Ask Ss to read the information about the pictures. T
introduces some new words through them & in the
content of the text:
+ taste (n): test the favour of sth by eating or
drinking a small amount of it..
+ swallow (v): make food, drink, ect. go down your
throat into your stomatch.
+ chew (v).
+ digest (v): when you digest food or it digests, it
is changed into substances that your body can use.
+ dip into (v): put your hand into a container to
take sth out; to read or watch only part of sth.
- Read each word 3 times and ask the Ss to repeat it.
- Leave the Ss 1 minute to self-practice.
- Ask 4-5 Ss to read all the word/phrases aloud in
front of the class
- Listen and helps the Ss to read the words/phrases
correctly.
3. While-reading:
a/ Task 1 (5’): The following words and phrases all
appear in the passage. Find the Vietnamese

equivalent for each of them.
- Ask Ss to read the text silently/ listen to the T and
work in pairs to compare their answers.

- Bring much help to our daily life (like a good
friend).
- Tell us good things to do and bad things to avoid.
- Our sadness can be driven away by an hour
reading. A book can comfort us, support us and help
us to overcome the most difficult moment in life.
- It is the easiest friend of all; we can come to him


any time we like and talk to him as long as we want.
- When we are tired, we can leave him without
excuse.

Ask Ss to learn the new words by heart and prepare
for the next lesson.

Lesson 2: Speaking
I. Objectives
- Ss practise talking about reading habits.

- Ss talk about characters in a book.

1. Task 1(8’)
- Get Ss to work in pairs to complete the
conversations then practise reading it.
- Call on some Ss to give their answers.
- Check the answers with the whole class.
Suggested answers:
A: What sort of books do you like to read?
B: Well, I like reading all sorts of books. Short
stories, science fiction, romance, everything.
A: How do you often read book?
B: Well, I often read through the book quickly first.
Then I start reading it again, and this time very
slowly to enjoy every detail of it.
A: When do you often read books?
B: I read books whenever I have a little free time. I
also read while waiting for the bus or during the
break at school.
2. Task 2: (10’) Dialogue building
- Ss work in pairs to ask and answer about each
other’s habit of reading books, using the questions in
the conversation 1.
- Invites some pairs to act out their dialogue.

I. Objectives
- Ss listen for general information about a woman talking about the book she
has just read.
- Ss listen to the tape & choose the best answer A, B or C and fill in the gaps
in the passage.

I. Objectives

- write complete sentences using the prompts given.

The book I have recently read is
“Sadako and the Thousand Paper
Cranes”, which is based on the life
of a real little girl who lived in
Japna from 1943 to 1955.
On 6 August 1945, an atomic bomb
was exploded over Hiroshima, a
city in Japan. One of the survivors
was two-year-old Sadako Sasaki.
But ten years later, Sadako fell ill
with leukaemia. As she became
sicker, she remembered an old
legend. If a sick person folded
thousand paper cranes, the God
would make him well again.
Sadako started to fold paper cranes
but she died when she hadn’t
finished her work. After that her
classmates then published a book
of letters which Sadako had written
to tell them about her wish for
peace. As the story of Sadako has
spread, the paper crane has also
