A. Đặt vấn đề
I. Lý do chọn đề tài
Ngày nay, cùng với việc phát triển của khoa học kỹ thuật cũng như yêu cầu của hội nhập kinh
tế, Tiếng Anh được xem là một ngôn ngữ chung thì việc dạy và học tiếng Anh ở các trường phổ
thông trở nên vô cùng quan trọng. Tiếng Anh là một phương tiện để cho các em tiếp cận với
những thành tựu khoa học mới. Tiếng Anh là một công cụ để giao tiếp, hợp tác và phát triển
kinh tế.Đặc biệt trong quá trình học một ngôn ngữ thì việc học chức năng giao tiếp của ngôn
ngữ đó là hết sức cần thiết. Vậy làm thế nào để cho việc giảng dạy tiếng Anh ở trường phổ
thông có hiệu quả? - Nâng cao phương pháp dạy và học là một nhu cầu thiết yếu không chỉ đối
với người học mà đặc biệt đối với người đang trực tiếp giảng dạy môn tiếng Anh.
Trong chương trình tiếng Anh THPT, bài tập về chức năng giao tiếp là một phần kiến
thức quan trọng có trong các kỳ thi tốt nghiệp và thi đại học. Vì thế mà bất kỳ giáo viên nào
khi ôn thi cho học sinh đều dành khá nhiều thời gian cho phần này.Tuy nhiên , đây lại là một
trong những phần gây lúng túng nhiều cho thí sinh khi làm bài. Sở dĩ như vậy,bởi chức năng
giao tiếp mang đậm văn phong nói và văn hóa của người bản xứ.Trong khi đó văn hóa phương
tây lại có rất nhiều điểm khác biệt hoàn toàn với văn hóa của người Việt.
Bản thân tôi cũng gặp không ít khó khăn khi tìm hiểu, nghiên cứu về đề tài này, và trăn trở để
tìm ra giải pháp tốt nhất nhằm truyền đạt cho học sinh có định hướng khi bắt gặp dạng bài tập
này và làm bài dễ dàng hơn.
Muốn làm tốt được các bài tập về chức năng giao tiếp thì học sinh phải nắm vững cách hỏi
đáp, nắm được những nét cơ bản về văn hóa giao tiếp trong tiếng Anh.Thực tế, nói đến chức
năng giao tiếp là một đề tài khá rộng, trong phạm vi bài viết của mình, tôi chỉ cung cấp cho
người đọc một số dạng chức năng giao tiếp cơ bản nhằm hỗ trợ cho các em học sinh trong quá
trình làm bài thi tốt nghiệp và đại học.
Với những lí do trên, tôi chọn đề tài “Nâng cao chất lượng và hiệu quả làm bài tập về chức
năng giao tiếp trong Tiếng Anh”
II. Mục đích của đề tài sáng kiến kinh nghiệm
Qua quá trình giảng dạy,tôi đã tìm tòi nghiên cứu và thấy được những khó khăn, nhầm lẫn của
học sinh và giáo viên gặp phải khi làm dạng bài tập này.Vì vậy, nghiên cứu đề tài này, người
viết nhằm mục đích như sau:

+ Tìm được phương pháp dạy phù hợp để truyền tải cho học sinh một cách dễ hiểu, dễ nhớ
nhất
+ Giúp học sinh biết thêm về một số nét khác biệt về văn hóa giao tiếp của người Mỹ và người
Việt
+ Kích thích tính tò mò, động cơ học tập của học sinh khi làm chuyên đề chức năng giao tiếp
+ Giúp học sinh tránh nhầm lẫn trong khi làm bài chức năng giao tiếp
+ Nâng cao chất lượng và hiệu quả ôn thi tốt nghiệp và đại học cao đẳng cho học sinh THPT
+ Giới thiệu cho bạn bè đồng nghiệp cùng tham khảo và áp dụng trong quá trình giảng dạy
III. Phương pháp nghiên cứu
+ Từ thực tế học sinh tại trường, tìm tài liệu nghiên cứu sâu về đề tài
+ Thông qua khảo sát kiểm tra, thống kê, trắc nghiệm cho từng lớp giảng dạy
+ Qua đúc rút kinh nghiệm trong quá trình giảng dạy chuyên đề
+ Qua báo cáo chuyên đề, trao đổi với bạn bè đồng nghiệp
+ Thống kê và đánh giá

B. Giải quyết vấn đề
I. Một vài nét cơ bản về sự khác nhau trong văn hóa giao tiếp của người Mỹ và người
Việt và khó khăn của người học khi làm bài tập về chức năng giao tiếp.
Như đã nói ở trên, văn hóa giao tiếp là vô cùng phong phú và phức tạp.Vì vậy trong phạm vi
đề tài này, tôi chỉ nêu lên một vài nét khác biệt cơ bản về cách giao tiếp giữa người Mỹ và
người Việt nhằm hỗ trợ trong quá trình làm bài tập về chuyên đề chức năng giao tiếp.
Văn hóa Việt và văn hóa Mỹ nói chung là khác nhau rất lớn nên người Việt thấy bối rối trong
giao tiếp khi tiếp xúc với họ.
1.Người Mỹ rất hay khen nhau. Từ chiếc áo đẹp, mái tóc mới đến những vấn đề quan trọng
hơn. Một ngày, hai người Mỹ đã làm việc chung trong một văn phòng nhiều năm có thể khen

nhau mấy lần. Với người lạ, sự khen nhau càng nhiều hơn. Người Việt hay cho như vậy là
khách sáo, giả dối hoặc là nịnh nọt và thường câu trả lờ là “Anh/Chị quá khen”. Đôi khi người
Việt còn làm ngược lại, ví dụ, hay nói đùa với nhau: "Hôm nay bị vợ mắng hay sao mà mặt
mày bí xị vậy?". Hậu quả là người Việt nói chuyện có thể làm người Mỹ bực mình.Vì thế mà
các câu khen ngợi, chúng ta thường bắt gặp trong tiếng anh như What a nice house!, you look
so beautiful! Welldone! Good Job…. Trong dạng bài tập này học sinh đôi khi bối rối khi lựa
chọn đáp án
Ví dụ: - “How a beautiful dress you are wearing!”

Trong trường hợp này, học sinh dễ nhầm lẫn giữa các đáp án và không nghĩ đó là đáp án C theo
cách giao tiếp của người Việt
2.Với đối tượng giao tiếp, người Việt Nam có thói quen ưa tìm hiểu, quan sát, đánh giá. Tuổi
tác, quê quán, trình độ học vấn, địa vị xã hội, tình trạng gia đình (bố mẹ còn hay mất, đã có
vợ/chồng chưa, có con chưa, mấy trai mấy gái,...) là những vấn đề người Việt Nam thường
quan tâm. Thói quen ưa tìm hiểu này (hoàn toàn trái ngược với người phương Tây!) khiến cho
người nước ngoài có nhận xét là người Việt Nam hay tò mò. Do sự khác nhau này, mà học sinh
gặp nhiều khó khăn khi chọn câu trả lời như sau:
- “Hello,Mary. This is Anne.”
- “____________________________”

D.Hello.Are you married?
Ở câu này học sinh băn khoăn giữa 3 đáp án A, C và D và thấy cái nào cũng hợp lý khi diễn đạt
bằng tiếng Việt nhưng đáp án chính xác nhất là A
3.Người Việt Nam thói quen "chào" đi liền với "hỏi" : "Bác đi đâu đấy?", "Cụ đang làm gì
đấy ?"... Ban đầu, hỏi là để có thông tin, dần dần trở thành một thói quen, người ta hỏi mà

không cần nghe trả lời và hoàn toàn hài lòng với những câu "trả lời" kiểu : "Tôi đi đằng này
một cái" hoặc trả lời bằng cách hỏi lại : Cụ đang làm gì đấy? Đáp : Vâng ! Bác đi đâu đấy?
Ngược lại nếu những câu hỏi mang tính xã giao này được dùng trong tiếng Anh, nó sẽ khiến

người nghe cảm thấy lúng túng vì họ cho rằng những câu hỏi đó “không phù hợp và xâm phạm
sự riêng tư”.
Ví dụ: - “Good morning”

D.Hello.Long time no see
Học sinh có thể xác định được là câu nào vì câu nào cũng na ná cách nói của người Việt nhưng
D mới là lựa chọn đúng
Hơn nữa, những câu hỏi như “How are you?”, “How’ve you been?” hay “Howa ya doing?” hỏi
về tình trạng sức khỏe của người được chào hoặc người thân của người đó là khá phổ biến
trong tiếng Anh. Trong khi những câu tương tự như vậy rất ít xuất hiện trong tiếng Việt. Câu
“How are you” trong tiếng Anh xuất hiện trong hầu hết các tình huống chào hỏi, kể cả trong
khi chào lướt hoặc chào nhanh. Còn ở tiếng Việt, câu này chỉ được hỏi khi hai người có thời
gian để trò chuyện và đặc biệt mối quan hệ phải gần gũi.
Người Việt trong chào hỏi làm quen có thể nói luôn về gia đình, bản thân nhưng người Mỹ
không nói về gia đình, bản thân mà nói về thời tiết, đồ ăn, những vấn đề không liên quan gì
đến cá nhân.
4.Người Việt Nam không có những từ cảm ơn, xin lỗi khái quát dùng chung cho mọi người
trường hợp như người phương Tây. Cũng như trong xưng hô, đối với mỗi người ta có một cách
cảm ơn, xin lỗi khác nhau : Con xin chú (Cảm ơn khi nhận quà), Chị chu đáo quá, Anh tốt quá
(cảm ơn khi được quan tâm), Bác bày vẽ quá (cảm ơn khi được tiếp đón nồng hậu), Quý hóa
quá (cảm ơn khi có khách đến thăm)…
Ví dụ : - “I have a gift for you. Happy birthday!”

5.Nếu học sinh khi làm dạng bài tập này không nắm vững cách nói, cách đáp lại trong văn
phong giao tiếp Tiếng Anh thì khó có thể lựa chọn được đáp án đúng trong những trường hợp
sau.
Ví dụ 1: Do you think it will rain?
“Oh.______________-“
A. I don’t hope B. I think not C.I don’t hope so D.I hope not
Đáp án: D
Trong tiếng anh, người ta dùng “I think/hope so” nhưng khi ở dạng phủ định lại là “I don’t
think so” và “I hope not” chứ không sử dụng ‘I think not” hay “I don’t hope so”
Ví dụ 2: “ Bye”

A. See you lately B. Meet you again C. Catch you later D.Meet you later
Các đáp án gần như tương tự nhau nên học sinh sẽ rất lúng túng trong, nhưng nếu đã học về
cách kết thúc đoạn hội thoại như thế nào trong tiếng Anh thì câu hỏi trên không gây khó khăn
gì cho chúng.
Đáp án: C
Ví dụ 3: “Would you like a cup of coffee?”

Học sinh có thể loại trừ được 2 đáp án A và C nhưng sẽ khó lựa chọn ra đáp án B hay là D vì
cả hai câu đều là cách trả lời lại lời mời.Tuy nhiên trong tiếng anh, có sự phân biệt giữa cách

trả lời lời mời ăn uống và lời mời tham gia một hoạt động nào đó. Để đồng ý với lời mời ăn
uống, người ta sử dụng Yes, please
Đáp án: D
Ví dụ 4: “Let’s go to Nha Trang this weekend.”

Đáp án A, B hay C đều có vẻ đúng nhưng khi trả lời lại lời đề xuất thì đáp án: C là đúng nhất
Ví dụ 5: “Didn’t you go to the conference?”

B. No. I went there with my friends
C. That sounds nice, but I can’t
D. No.I didn’t
Nếu không nắm vững cách thức giao tiếp ttrong câu trả lời yes/no học sinh sẽ nhầm lẫn trong
câu này. Trong câu hỏi yes/no phủ định trong tiếng anh nếu đồng ý, ta phải dùng no.Ngược lại,
không đồng ý sẽ là yes.Ở câu trên, câu hỏi là “Bạn đã không đến cuộc họp phải không?” thì
đáp án đúng nhất phải là A:“Yes,I did.But I didn’t stay long”(Đúng vậy, nhưng tôi không ở đó
lâu)
Để giúp người học tránh được những nhầm lẫn trên, tôi xin cung cấp một số chức năng giao
tiếp trong tiếng Anh và cách đáp lại

C. Kết luận

Để thực hiện đề tài này , tôi đã cố gắng tìm tòi, nghiên cứu tài liệu cùng với trải
nghiệm dạy ôn thi tốt nghiệp, đại học cao đẳng . Tôi đã mạnh dạn trình bày đề tài này trước
tổ chuyên môn và nhận được nhiều sự nhận xét, đóng góp từ đồng nghiệp.Sau một thời gian
vận dụng đề tài, giáo viên và học sinh đều nhận thấy hiệu quả rõ rệt của nó. Trước khi áp
dụng đề tài, đa số học sinh đều lúng túng trong cách trả lời các chức năng giao tiếp, đồng
thời chúng áp dụng lối nói của người Việt trong khi làm dạng bài này.Nhưng sau khi áp
dụng đề tài, học sinh đã phân biệt được những nét cơ bản trong văn hóa giao tiếp của những
người sử dung tiếng Anh và cách giao tiếp của người Việt.Các em đã nắm vững cách trả lời
đối với mỗi chức năng giao tiếp, biết sử dụng khẩu ngữ một cách chính xác, từ đó tạo được
hứng thú trong khi ôn thi cho các em.Đồng thời, việc thống kê các câu hỏi về chức năng
giao tiếp xuất hiện trong các kỳ thi tốt nghiệp, đại học và cao đẳng từ năm 2007 tới nay, đã
tạo động cơ học tập và giúp các em hình thành ý thức tự giác trong học tập.
Trên đây là một số ý kiến mà tôi đã mạnh dạn đưa ra để đồng nghiệp tham khảo. Tuy
nhiên trong quá trình nghiên cứu, người viết dựa trên kinh nghiệm của bản thân và một số
tài liệu tham khảo,bài viết này không thể tránh khỏi thiếu sót. Rất mong nhận được ý kiến
phản hồi từ quý thầy cô, học sinh và bạn đọc
D. Một số kiến nghị đề xuất
+ Đối với Sở giáo dục
- Tổ chức định kì các lớp bồi dưỡng chuyên đề mang tính thiết thực và có chất lượng cao
- Nên đề xuất lên cấp trên giảm tải những phần không thật sự cần thiết trong chương trình
SGK, đồng thời xem kẻ trong các tiết học speaking luyện về chức năng giao tiếp nhiều hơn
nữa, vì nhiều chức nnawng giao tiếp được đề cập trong đề tài này không có trong chương
trình.
+ Đối với nhà trường
-Duy trì thường xuyên các buổi học bồi dưỡng phụ đạo cho học sinh 12, đặc biệt đối với
những em học lực trung bình yếu.
-Trang bị cho giáo viên thêm nhiều loại sách tham khảo để nâng cao trình độ tay nghề
- Sắp xếp các lớp học theo năng lực của từng em để giáo viên có phương pháp dạy phù hợp
(Học sinh khá giỏi vào một lớp, học sinh trung bình yếu vào một lớp học bồi dưỡng, phụ
đạo vào buổi chiều)

+ Đối với học sinh
-Cần nâng cao tinh thần tự giác, có thái độ học tập tích cực trong các giờ học,thường xuyên
rèn luyện các bài tập ở nhà, sau khi đã được học lý thuyết ở trường
