Order of adjectives before nouns

A/ LÝ THUYẾT
1. Chú ý và ví dụ
- Có thể dùng 2 hoặc nhiều tính từ trước một danh từ
Ex: She lives in a nice new house on the hill.
There is a beautiful large round wooden table in the kitchen.
- Các tính từ (new, round, wooden, large) là tính từ miêu tả. Chúng cho ta thông tin về kích
thước , hình dáng, chất liệu....
- Các tính từ (nice, beautiful) chỉ quan điểm. Chúng cho biết cảm nghĩ khách quan của nười
nói.
- Tính từ chỉ quan điểm thường đứng trước tính từ chỉ miêu tả
2. Trật tự của các tính từ
Khi có hai hoặc nhiều tính từ đứng trước danh từ thì trật tự thường (nhưng không phải
luôn luôn) được sắp xếp theo thứ tự sau (từ trên xuống)

-->quiet, boring, shiny, important, famous, angry, wet,
sunny, fast, difficult, warm, wise, modern......
--> new, old, young, elderly....
--> round, oval, triangular....
--> red, blue, brown, green, black....
--> Japanese, American, Chinese.....
--> stone, plastic, steel, paper, leather, brick.....
--> an electric kettle, political matters....
--> a bread knife, walking stick, riding boots, bath tower
Ex:
1. Who’s that fat old lady over there? [ NOT that old fat lady]
2. She bought two beautiful wooden picture frames { opinion, material, purpose}
3. That poor man used to live in a big, modern brick house. { size, quality, material}
4. Ann has a small round pink face. {size, shape, colour}
5. Please give me that old green plastic bucket. {age, colour, material}
6. These red Spanish leather riding boots belongs to Tom {colour, origin, material,
purpose}
Lưu ý:
1- Tính từ chỉ kích thước và chiều dài (big, small, tall, long, short...) thường đứng trước tính
từ chỉ hình dáng và chiều rộng (round, oval, fat, thin, wide, narrow...)
Ex: a tall thin girl
a long narrow street
2- Tính từ chỉ thứ tự (ordinal adj – first, second, third....) đứng trước tính từ chỉ số lượng
(cardinal adj – one, two, three...)
Ex: the first two days
3- Nếu các tính từ cùng loại, thì tính từ ngắn thường được đặt trước tính từ dài.

Ex: It was a cold windy day.
He was a tall handsome man.
4- Khi có hai hay nhiều tính từ chỉ màu sắc, ta dùng liên từ and
Ex: a black and white dress
a red, white and green flag
