SHORT STORY
I. AIMS.

By the end of this lesson, Ps will be able to Review the phonics, vocabulary and
sentence patterns from units 11 – 15. Ps can read, listen to and understanding a short
story.

3. Attitude: Ps know about the story.

IV. PROCEDURE:

I. Warm up:(5’)

- Review the model sentences from unit11 to unit 15 Revision.
II. New lesson:(30’)

1. Red and listen to the story. Then fill the gaps.
(7’)

- Tell the class they are going to read and listen to the
story, and then fill tha gaps.

- Before Ps listen, ask them to look at the pictures and
ask them some questions( eg: What are Mimi, Chit
and Mary doing in the first picture? Who is Mary
thinking of in the third picture? Who is she thinking
of in the fourth picture? What day is it today?)

- Ask Ps to read and guess the word to fill in the gaps.
- Play the tape and let Ps listen and fill the gaps.
Key:

- Tell the class they are going to put the sentences in
the correct order and write the numbers in the boxes.
- Give Ps time to do the task. Ask them to try

in Introduction.

3. Work in pairs. Complete the conversation with
information about you. (7’)

- Tell Ps that they are going to look at the questions
and write the anwers. Give them a few seconds to
read the questions and check comprehension.

- Put them in pairs and give them time to do the task.
- Ask Ps to swap and check their answers before
checking as a class.

- Ask a few pairs to read aloud the dialogue.

4. Find the words in the story to complete the
sentences.(8’)

- Tell the class they are going to read the sentences
and find words in the story to complete them.

- Give Ps a few seconds to read the sentences in
silence. Check comprehension and elicit the words to
fill the gaps.

- Give them time to do the task.

- Get them to swap and check their answers before
checking as a class.

- Ask pupils to look at the four pictures to identify the
characters (Mai and Phong)and the context in which

bookshop together.). Check comprehension.

- Play the recording more than once, ask students
listen and repeat. Do choral and individual repetition,
pointing to the characters speaking.

- Play the recording again and aks pupils listen and

repeat.

2. Point and say: (15’)
a. Vocabulary:

- Have Ps look at the pictures. Teach them how to
read the words and phrases under each picture:

bakery, pharmacy, supermaket, medicine, sweet shop
+ Checking: Slap the board.

b. Model sentences:

A: Let’s go to the bookshop.

- c. Practice:

- T runs through the cues.

- We are going to practise Making and responding to
suggestions to go somewhere.

- Ask pupils to look at the bubbles to understand how
to use the language. Ask them to look at the five
pictures to identify the places. Elicit the meaning of
the nouns describing places: bakery, pharmacy,
supermaket, medicine, sweet shop

- Point to the first picture and ask one pupil to ask

Let’s go to the bakery. I want to buy some bread.and
another to answer Great idea/ Sorry, I’m busy.

- Ask pupils to do choral and individual repetition.
Repeat the same procedure with the rest of the
pictures.

- Ask pupils to work in pairs, pointing to the
characters speaking and to role-play the dialogue.
* Work in pairs. Suggest some places to go and say
