<b>UNIT 1: Aa – PART 4, 6, 7</b>
<b>I. Objective: </b>


<b>1. Language focus:</b>


- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize and say the three Aa
words correctly, do the actions, practise the sound of the letter Aa and the


coresponding words.
<i>Vocabulary: acrobat</i>
<i>Sight words: an, for and</i>
<b>2. Skill: </b>


- Listening, speaking, reading, writing.
<b>3. Attitude:</b>


- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regularly.
<b>II. Teaching aids: </b>


- Book, CD, phonics cards, computer, projector, soft ware.
<b>III. Method:</b>


- Model-Talk-Practice, individual work, pair work, group work.
- Some techniques can be used: Craftwork, Thumbs Up or Down

<b>2. Warm up (5’) </b>


- T show the phonics cards, ask Ss do the actions, say the sound and words.
E.g. Teacher: (Show the ‘ant’ card). Say ’ant’


Class: (wriggling their fingers as if ants are crawling) /<sub></sub>/ ant
3. New lesson.

- T encourage Ss to point to the picture of the
word that the teacher says.


- T play the CD and ask Ss to listen to the story
once.


- Play the CD again. Ss listen and point to the
pictures of the key words when they hear them in
the story.


- T read the story. Ss follow their books.


- T reads the printed words then let Ss look at the
pictures and say the words.



- T asks Ss work in pairs. One reads while the
other checks, then they change roles. Or one reads

<i><b>Activity: Say the Sight Words</b><b>(5’)</b></i>


- T point to and say the sight words: an, for, and
- Ss repeat


- T calls Ss to read them aloud.


<i><b> Activity 6. Colour the apples that have Aa in </b></i>
<i><b>them</b><b>(6’)</b></i>


- T asks to take out their pencils and name some
colours and ask the Ss to repeat.


- T uses the structure: “I like…” and ask Ss hold
up the colour pencils/ crayons they like.


- T asks Ss colour the apples that have Aa in them.
- T gives Ss 2 minutes to colour in the apples that
have Aa in them.


- T go around the class providing any help.
<i><b>Activity: Thumbs Up or Down</b><b>(5’)</b></i>



- Number the apples in exercise 6 from one to six.
- T asks Ss to put their thumbs up if the apple has
Aa in it and put their thumbs down if the apple
does not have Aa in it.


e.g. Teacher: (point to the apple number one in the
book) Apple number one. Up or Down?


Class: (putting their thumbs up)


T: Good! And apple number two? Up or Down?
<i><b>Activitiy 7. Listen, point and repeat. Colour the </b></i>
<i><b>pictures of the words that start with the a sound. </b></i>
<i><b>Say the a words </b><b>(7’)</b></i>


- T shows Ss the acrobat phonics card. Point to it
and say: acrobat. Ask them to repeat.


- Mime trying to keep balance and say: acrobat.
Encourage Ss to do the same


- T point to the pictures, Ss do the corresponding
actions and say the words.


- T asks Ss to colour the pictures of the words that
start with the a sound.


<i><b>Activity: Craftwork</b><b> (5’)</b></i>


- T asks Ss to take out their notebooks.



- Ss choose one word then draw the letter and the
picture in their notebooks.


- T tell them to colour the letter and the picture.
