STORY TIME

I. Objective:

1. Language focus:

- By the end of the lesson, students will be able to consolidate the sound of the letters
Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm and the corresponding words.

- Learn and practise reading skills and sing a song.
* S’ Tam:

- He can read the sound of the letters Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm.
2. Skill:

- Listening, speaking, reading, writing.
3. Attitude:

- Encourage Ss to consolidate the sound of the letter Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm and the
coresponding words.

II. Teaching aids:

- Book, CD, phonics cards, paper including the lyrics of the chant.
III. Method:

- Model - Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work.
- Some techniques can be used: music chairs.

IV. Procedures:

2. Warm up (5’)

- T choose some phonics cards from Unit 9 -13.

- T divide the class into 2 groups, A and B, and make two lines.
- T give the first student from each team a phonics card.

- T say “ go” and Ss says the corresponding words and passes the card over their head
to the second student. The second students say the word, pass the cards between their
legs to the third student.

- Keep passing the cards over their head and between their legs to the next students.
- The last student in each line races to hand the phonics cards to the teacher and says
the word.

3. New lesson (30')

Teacher– Students’ activies Contents

Activity 1. Listen. Read along (10’)
- Tell the students that it’s story time.

- T ask them if they like reading stories and what
their favourite storybook character is.

- Prepare phonics cards of these word: mouse,
igloo, lion, lollipop, kitten, kite, moon.

- T ask Ss to read out the words.

- T ask them questions about what they can see in
the pictures.

E.g: Teacher: Look! What’s this?
 Class: (It’s a) jelly!

Teacher: Yes! The jelly is in the ….
 Class: igloo! Etc

- T play the CD and ask Ss to listen and follow the
story in their books, pointing to the pictures of the
key words.

- Play the CD again pausing for Ss to repeat.
- Ask individual students to read the story aloud.
*S’ Tam:

- Read some words such as: lion, jelly, lollipop…
*Activity: Extension (5’)

- Say one of the words from the lesson (e.g. jelly).
- Ask Ss come to the board and draw its shape.
- Ask the rest of the class give comment.

Activity 2:Read and draw. (10’)

- T point to the sentences and elicit the animal in
each.

- Ask Ss to say what each animal has, according to
the story.

*S’Tam:

- Draw and colour.
Activity: Act Out (5’)

- Read the sentences in the story, pause at the key
words.

- Invite the students to mime them (the igloo, the
jelly, the lion, the lollipop, the kitten, the kit, the 
mouse, the moon).

- T ask Ss come to the front of the classroom and
act out the story.

I. Objective:

- Encourage Ss to use the structure more regulary.

- Model – Talk - Practice, individual work, pair work, group work.

*Activity: whisper

- Whisper a word to a student.

- The student wisher the word to the next student and on it goes.
- The last student says out loud the word.

- Show up the card to check student’s word.

- T ask Ss to name the pictures and the
corresponding sounds.

- Ss circle the letters or the sound in each picture.

Activity 2: Match the letters, the pictures (6’)

- T ask Ss to draw lines from the big letters that
correspond to the pictures to the small letter.
- T go around the classroom to provide any
necessary help, ask individual Ss to say out the
sound.

- Draw lines from the big letters that correspond to
the pictures to the small letter.

Activity 3: Says the words. Circle the ones that 
begin with the same sound (6’)

- T explain the activity.
- T ask Ss to name the items.

- Ss circle the ones that begin with the same sound.
