Introduction

= Nowadays, when our country has increasingly developed on the international stage and strongly
participated in the world economy, especia= lly Vietnam’s integration into World Trade Organization
( WTO ) creates many opportunitie= s to exchange and cooperate with international friends. So, our
human resouces h= ave to know foreign language, especially English – the most popular langu= age in
the international communication today. In fact, many companies and organizations have used in their
activities. One of them are the internatio= nal travel centres where usually contact with the international
partners and cu= stomers. Tourist staffs are considered as representative, bridge, picture to the
international friends. With such an importance, tourism section always needs their staffs to have good

foreign language. With all of reasons above, I ch= ose to study and experience at Truong Son Tourist
Company for my practice progr= ess.

1. Establishment And Development History
Travel Center is an agency under the a member limited company R= 11; COECCO Truong Son
Tourist, was established and officially operated since Ap= ril 2005. It undertakes business in travel
activities: organization of domestic= and international tours, travel advisory services, passenger
transportation services and tourist guide services .... Travel Center is under the supervision of the
Company in terms of organizational manageme= nt, business. It complies with the centre’s private
regulation issued early this year. Promulgating the regulations is to define management, rights and
responbilities of each department and member, as well as the regulation implementation of Travel Centre,
of COECCO Tourist Company and of Vietnam Law.

CHAPTER II: PRACTICE PROCESS=

&nb= sp; 1. My activities
= After received some knowledge about tourism from my teacher, I have chance to practice as a
tour = guide at Truong Son International and Domestic Travel Centre from February 23 to April 15.
During the practice process, I was assigned a lot of tasks such a= s: translate tour programs from
Vietnamese into English and vice versa, transl= ate documents to send email to company’s foreign
partners, participate in marketing work, design tour program, send and receive fax, directly guide tourists
in tours itenerary,…

2. Experiences
After the practi= ce process, I have summarized so= me precious experiences.
Firstly, I know more about tour gu= ide job and how we do to become a good tour guide. As you know,
to promote the image of Vietnam country and people, in addition to advertisements in the mass media, the
to= ur guide is considered as the "ambassador" direct to do that work the most efficient and practical. =
Knowing that, I summarize some precious experiences as a tour guide during my pract= ice report.
Each tour = guide must equip themselves with a good cultural background, at least a foreign
language (As a stude= nt of foreign language, this is my advantage), and a career bravery to deal with
arising situations in tour itenerary. If you have a good communication in a foreign language but no other
knowledge of cultural history, or know much a= bout history of our country but not good at foreign
language, they become disadvantages to attract tourists.
= Tour guide's job really requires strictly. Standing in front of tourists, you have to be a culture, a
historian, a diplomat, and a clever marketing business. Image the work of a tour guide as a ambassador,
introdu= cing images, beauty, culture and look good about Vietnam country and people. To do that, each
tour guide must continually learn, improve and update knowledge of the daily news.
Passion for the profession, exploring, learning and communication are traits that will make you close
with tour guide career longer. Its strict w= ill be a challenge. However tour guide career is more attractive
than all other ones with better incomes.
= With the new things after each tour, happy stories with tourists, sharing the same sense of

culture, history..., tour g= uides feel their knowledge more, their adaptability better, more mature.
Difficulties and challenges that w= ill not interfere with the job you want to follow. Oppor= tunity is
always open for the "ambassador" to " tourism smile"= .
= Secondly, I can apply my theory into practice. I had many chances to communicate with the
foreigners because I was assigned to directly guide to= ur. I learn how to pronunciate well and exactly. So
I improve my English speaki= ng skill. Now I am very confident when contacting with the foreigners.
We can see that practicing at company is good for every student .

Problems

When= I practice at the Travel Centre, I encountered some problems. My knowledge can not satisfy
requirement of tour guide job. Tour guide job requires a lot of standards to become a good to= ur guide.


However, bachelor of foreign language sector just specialize in “overview” nature, mainly train
professional interpreters and translators, it doesn’t specialize in any field, any industry as tour= ism,
banking. So when I practice at any company, I do not have enough expertise = to take over that work.
That requires me to have time learn work. However, in = fact my practice time is not long for me to learn
professional work assigned at = the company.

Suggestions

From the problems I encountered during my practice process, to improve effect of teaching and learning,
I want to give some suggestions to foreign language department as following:
- Supplement some specialized subjects in curriculum so that students can choose with their
favourite such as: banking, accounting, commercial finance,…

- Create conditions for student to practice extracurricular
=

- Link with companies for students to cooperate and work part time at the companies

=

- Link with companies = to organize programs to find young talent in the future

=

- Prolong time of practice longer.
