SUMMARY
TWO-YEAR OUTCOMES OF PERMANENT PACEMAKER IMPLANT
PROGRAM AT KIEN GIANG PROVINCIAL GENERAL HOSPITAL
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness and safeness of permanent pacemarker implant
program at Kiên Giang provincial general hospital from 03/2009 to 03/2011.
Methods: Prospective, descriptive study. Total number of patients implanted permanent
pacemakers at Kien Giang provincial general hospital from 03/2009 to 03/2011.
Results: 61 patients were implanted permanent pacemakers. Age range was 13-92 (mean =
64.1) years. Follow-up period: 2-24 months. Symptoms: 67.2% syncope, 31.2% fatigue,
dyspnea, 1.6% dizziness. Pacing indications: 59% AV block II and III, 37.7% sinus node disease
and 3.3% ventricular tachycardia. 50.7% of accesses were from the left subclavian site.
Cutdown was performed in 55.7%. Patients were implanted with VVI(R) (85.3%), VDD (4.9%),
DDD(R) (6.5%) and ICD (2 patient) devices. The successful rate of procedure was 98.4%, the
clinical successful was 96.7%. Complications were lead dislodgement (1.6%), late pocket
infection (1.6%) and pacemaker syndrome (1.6%).
Conclusions: 61 permanent pacemaker implantants were performed at KienGiang
provincial general hospital with a high success rate and an acceptable complication rate. This
demonstrates that Kien Giang provincial general hospital has successfully implemented a
pacemaker implant program.
