Unit 2: Making arangements (6 lesson)
Lesson 1: Getting started - Listen and read
I. Aims:
Practicing a conversation on the phone to understand the details and making similar
conversations
II. Teaching aids: - Tape
- Pictures
- Students books
III. Procedure:
1, Warm up:
Getting started:
- Matching: Ss match each objects with its name on P.18
- Chatting: T asks: “When do you need these thing ?”
+ Give ss some clues:
a, to write addresses and telephone numbers
b, to send fax
c, to make a phone call in the street
d, to find someone’s telephone number
e, to make phone calls anywhere you like
f, to leave and take messanges
+ Example: When I am in the street and I want to make phone call but I don’t have a
mobile phone, I need a public.
2, Presentation:
- Set the scene: “Nga is going to see the movie Dream City .She invites Hoa to go with her
”.
- Let ss listen and follow the dialogue is Hoa will go with Nga
- Get ss to practice the dialogue in pairs, then answer comprehension questions (Listen and
Read 2. P19)
a, Nga b,Nga c, Nga d,Nga e,Hoa f,Nga
3, Practice: Word cue drill
- Let ss make similar dialogues with their partner


- Give some clues: a, “The nightmare” / Cong Nhan movie theater / 7.45 p.m
b, “The Call of the Wild”/ Quoc Gia theater / 8 p.m
Example: Mai: Hello. Can I sppeak to Lan, please. I’m Mai
Lan: Hello, Mai. I’m Lan. How are you?
Mai: I’m fine. And you?
Lan:I’m fine. / Great. Me too
Mai: I’m going to see the “Night mare ” at Cong Nhan movie theater at 7.45
this evening. Would you like?
Lan: Yes. I’d love to. What time shall we meet?
Mai: Is 7.15 Ok?
Lan: Yes Let’s meet at 7.15 outside the theater
4, Production
- I remind ss to memorize how to answer a subject questions
What does Nga say when she wants..................
a....to talk to Hoa on the phone? - “Can I speak to Hoa, please”
b....to introduce herself? - “This is Nga/I’m Nga”
c....to invite Hoa to see the movie? - “Would you like to go to the theater”
d....to arrange the time? - “Is 6.30 OK?”
e....to arrange a meeting place? - “Let’s meet at outside the theater”
- Let ss work in pairs to do the role play.
5, Homework:
- Do exercise 1 - 3 in workbook
- Learn by heart new words in Getting started
Unit 2 - Making arangements
Lesson 2- Speak
I. Aims:
Further practice in making arrangments and talking about intentions
II. Teaching aids: - Books
- Students themselves
III. Procedure:

1, Warm up:
- Jumbled words:
2, Pre - speaking:
Ordering
- Ask ss to put the sentences into the correct order to make a complete conversation
Exercise in speak 1 (P.20)
1- b 4-a 7-e 10-h
2-f 5-i 8-k 11-d
3-j 6-c 9-g
Language function
- Give different ways to invite people and respond invitations
- Elicit the following sentences from Ss
+ Can you play badminton this afternoon  an invite
+ I’m sorry I can’t. I;m going to ....  a refuse
+ I’ll meet you at ....  an arrange
3, While - speaking
- Exercise in Speak 2 (P.20 - 21): Ba
+ can I speak to Ba , Please? This is Bao
+ I’m fine, thanks. And you?
+ Would you like to play chess tonight?
+ What about tomorrow afternoon?

- Get ss to practice the dialogue in pairs
- Give some clues to practice making similar dialogue in pair:
a, play table tennis
b, visit our friends
c, see a movie

d, go shopping
4, Post - speaking
- Let ss write the four dialogues in practice they have made in thier notebooks
- Review previous grammar the near future to talk about intention
5, Homework
- Make a dialogue
- Do exercise 2 (P.14 - 15) in workbooks

Lesson 3 - Listen
I. Aims
Furthe practice in talking about intention with “going to ” and in listening the dialogue
II Teaching aids: - Tape
- Students them selves
III. Procedure
1, Warm up
Playing game: Telephone transmitting
- Divide the class into two teams. Choose 6 volunteers
- Tell the first students in 2 lines the message:
“She’s going to have a party next Sunday. She wants you to come ”
- Ss whisper the message to the next in their lines. The second whispers to the third .... until
the last one
- The last student has to shout the message. If he/ she is the first to shout the message and it
is the message that the teacher tells them, their team win the game
2, Pre- listening
Pre- teach
+ a message (n): tin nhắn
+ leave a message (v): để lại lời nhắn
+ take a mesange (v): nhận tin nhắn
+ to make an appointment (v): có cuộc hẹn

+ the principal (n): hiệu trưởng
Pre - questions
a, Who made the call?
b, Who did she want to talk to?
c, Why did she have to leave to leave a message?
d, When did she want to see Mr. Kelvin?
3, While - speaking
- Let ss listen to the tele phone conversation and find the answer to pre- questions
